Good luck with that free agency thing, Matt.

"Matt Lawton has tested positive for steroids, Newsday has confirmed. Major League Baseball is expected to make an announcement later today.

The positive test for Lawton, who was traded to the Yankees on Aug. 28, was first reported by Deadspin.com.

Lawton filed for free agency earlier this week. In 21 games with the Yankees, Lawton struggled, going only 6-for-48 (.125).

After he did not make the postseason roster, he asked to leave the team and head home instead of sticking around in the event he was needed as an injury replacement. "

WOW....well I am one person who likes(liked) Matt Lawton, going back to his Mets days, and was pretty excited when we traded for him. In fact I was in favor of possibly keeping him aboard for next year...but now that this has been revealed, f*** HIM!

I am ashamed to have had him on the 2005 New York Yankees.

Proving, once again, steroids don't really work...I mean, the Yankees put Bubba "Columbus" Crosby and an injured Sheff in right field before they would let this guy out there near the end of the season.

I couldn't love this anymore. I don't even know why I was so happy when I heard this but I was ecstatic. I actually left my feet. Maybe it's because I hate the way the Pirates bring in turds and lie to us ... and he was the most recent turd. Maybe because he wore pinstripes most recently. His career is over.

YES! A fringe major leaguer got caught with steroids! And since he played 2 weeks on the Yankees, 25% of the team must be on them. Huzzah!

"I made a terrible and foolish mistake that I will regret for the rest of my life," Lawton said, in a statement to The Associated Press. "I take full responsibility for my actions and did not appeal my suspension. I apologize to the fans, the game, my family and all those people that I let down. I am truly sorry and deeply regret my terrible lapse in judgment."

Enjoy Kansas City...or whatever baseball Hell you're banished to...

Boo to all of you who doubted me.

um dude, not exactly. Lawton didnt even make the postseason roster. Here is a quote that doesnt even reflect what Matt Lawton was

SBL: "Is this a name we're actually going to care about?"

Carroll: "Yes."

sorry but certainly not a player much people would care about.

not exactly, lawton didnt make the playoffs roster.

Was it ever a "significant" player on a playoff team? I thought it was an outfielder from one of the AL Playoff teams. They never said that the player was on the playoff roster or played in the playoffs, just that he was a member of the team. I doubt there is anyone else.

are you saying Matt Lawton isn't a significant name? Mrs. Lawton will NOT be happy to hear that

oh no his wife wont be happy if she saw i said this? Tough s***, its the truth. Dude cmon the guy was traded away twice this past season, hence a player teams didnt want to keep around and the fact that he was left off of the postseason roster bodes he's not significant. I didnt hear an outcry from the yankee fans when he wasnt listed on the roster against the Angels. Significant means a major effect or importance, does that honestly describe Lawton

Recognizable outfielder from a playoff team, Lawton is probably that guy. Unless somebody else comes out in the near future, then Lawton was the person referenced.

I'm curious as to how liberal the appeals process is. Lawton said he didn't appeal and he was outed fairly quickly. Which guys won their appeal, and which guys probably shouldn't have is the question. I don't think we'll get an answer to those any time soon though.
