Mazzone likely headed to Baltimore

 

I posted this a few days ago, but Mazzone was NOT my first choice (and I know im in the minority on this one), as I prefer Righetti or Guidry. But this definately doesn't help our chances for a 9th straight Division Championship.

I dont think the O's will dethrone us. I worry more about Toronto more then the O's. I will say watch out for Mazzone and him working with Dainel Caberea. Caberea has great stuff and if Mazzone can work with him on consistancy with his mechanics he could be very good.

You really shouldn't be worried about the O's or Toronto dethroning you. I'd be more worried about the Sox if I were you.

The Red Sox go without saying. I was comparing the O's to a team like the Jays because those 2 teams have battle for 3rd in the AL East while the Red Sox have been locked into that 2nd place slot for 8 stright years .

In my mind Mazzone would make the O's a contender if he signed there. Just look at the job he's done on pitchers. He's resurrected (sp?) careers:

 

Chris Hammond

John Burkett

Mike Remlinger

Jaret Wright

Jorge Sosa

Juan Cruz

 

That's just off the top of my head. Not to mention helping develop a couple of Hall of Famers (Glavine and Smoltz).

 

Maybe he gets too much credit and there's someone ELSE in the Braves organization who's doing it, but the success rate of the Atlanta organization (and pitching staff) during Mazzone's tenure cannot be denied.

I have to disagree with you Alexanderthegreat, I think Mazzone will do a great job with that staff and definately make them an obsticle for us. Look at it this way, if they have him this year their pitching doesnt fall apart and they stay in it and possibly win the division.

I disgaree., the O's already had one of THE best pitching coaches in baseball in Ray Miller. In fact if Ray Miller didnt have the health problems he currently is having the Yankees would have picked him up right after the O's dropped him. Their pitching didnt fall apart because of the coach they fell apart because 1. Bedard got hurt and never re-gained his steller form and 2. Ponson acted like Ponson. The other pitchers pitched like they have all their career exceot for Bruce Chen who was pitching above his head. They lose BJ Ryan. Brian Roberts wont be ready for opening day and that line up without him stinks. Its Tejada and Mora and thats it. I just dont think they are that good. Then again its October 20th not April 1st so we wont know what that team really looks like untill then.

i can't believed boston didn't go after mazzone...i mean he's clearly the best pitching coach ever in my opinion..he makes your pitchers better and boston needed that..someone to guide their young pitchers and that person was mazzone...boston didn't need to sign more pitchers, we needed to make the ones we had better by signing leo mazzone which we missed out on

well lets see here... um dude, is dave wallace's contract up?? no its not, hence the main reason why sox didnt go looking for new pitching coach.

 

he is still signed through the 2007 season
