According to ESPN, the Yankees have offered Hideki Matsui a 4 year deal worth $50 million.

He'll probably take that, should be announced Monday, start of business.

A little off-topic, I know. But ya know who would be the perfect player for the Yanks; Brandon Inge. I think we should take a shot at getting him from Detroit, probably wouldnt cost us that much.

Inge is extremely versatile its ridiculous. He can play the infield, outfield, and catch. He would be especially handy if all the rumors about getting another catcher so Jorge could DH some times were true. Nobody likes to have their catcher DHing, because theyre backup would have to catch, and if he gets hurt and you bring in the regular catcher, you lose the DH and the pitcher has to hit. So if we got a Brandon Inge, he could be the backup when Jorge DHs.

Now the reason i reccomend Inge rather than any other catcher is his versatility. Nobody wants to have a 3rd catcher on the bench who is exclusive to catching, just takes away depth from the bench. This guy is pretty solid, and would be the perfect bench player for us.

Tell me what you think.

s***, well can't say that I'm not surprised

Classic Georgie

Actually, by most accounts, George had little to do with this deal; it was mostly Cashman and Matsui's agent.

From Yankees.com:

"The new proposal exceeds a goal Matsui is believed to hold of getting 'a dollar more than Ichiro Suzuki,' whose Mariners deal is for $44 million over four years."

Looks like the Matsui deal will be announced tonight, or they will agree to push back the deadline a day or so and announceit tomorrow.

NEW YORK (AP) - Hideki Matsui and the Yankees closed in Tuesday on a four-year contract worth about $52 million that will keep the popular outfielder in New York

Matsui's agent, Arn Tellem, and Yankees general manager Brian Cashman hoped to reach an agreement by the end of the night, meeting the Nov. 15 deadline contained in Matsui's first contract with the Yankees. That deal stated that if there is no agreement by then, New York must place the outfielder on unconditional release waivers, which would mean the Yankees could not re-sign him until May 15.

Matsui is coming off a $21 million, three-year contract in which he earned an additional $1.5 million in performances bonuses.

A three-time MVP in Japan's Central League with the Yomiuri Giants, Matsui has been one of the Yankees more productive hitters. He batted .305 with 23 homers and 116 RBIs last season.

After agreeing to a new contract to stay on as general manager, Cashman said that re-signing Matsui was his first priority.

In other Yankees news, New York exercised its $1.5 million option on reliever Tanyon Sturtze rather than paying a $150,000 buyout. The 35-year old right-hander was 5-3 with a 4.73 ERA and one save in one start and 63 relief appearances.

Arod was interviewed about his MVP Award by MLB.com

MLB.com: Are there any rumors or names that you have heard that made you think, "That would really be a great move for us?"

Rodriguez: I heard John Olerud's name come up, and that really excited me. He's an incredible player, and I think he could be a championship first baseman.

Also, the Yankees have picked up Sturtze's option for 2006.

Not sure how I feel about this....

I dont mind, he was good in 04, good at the start of last year, deserves another chance. Make him our 6-7 inning guys.

Yo...

Milton for Pavano.

I like that trade, please let it happen.

umm...no thanks

No way I give up Pavano for Milton. We would be better off waiting until he is not tendered and then sign him on the open market rather than trade Pavano for him.

The Dodgers will be willing to part with him for far less i think.

Come on. They're both mediocre anyway. Although Pavano is expensive, I wouldn't mind him on the Dodgers. We need more SP.

As for my sig -

Brooklynites (Dodger fans) and SF Giant fans both hate the L.A. Dodgers. Screw that.

I personally dont think it would be as bad as everyone says. I think that he would be put in his place very early. I could see Jorge screaming at him in the clubhouse or something. Jeter definately wouldnt tolerate any of Bradley's s***, and if Tino was still here then forget about it, Bradley would be an angel. (For those that dont know, Tino is a hardass and has no problem killing clubhouse cancer. Dont let his public persona/appearance as a "nice guy" fool you.)

Besides, Joe has always worked well with strong personalities like that throughout the years.

I still think Pavano deserves another year. I always like to give a player at least 2 years in NY before I decide he needs to go. There needs to be an adjustment year, plus he was injured most of the year. SO I wouldnt label him mediocre, just as someone who had a bad year. I expect good things from him next year. I'll give you Wright though.

Kinda like Bradley. He would've had a breakout season if it weren't for injuries.

Cashman isn't afraid of being blunt, is he?

General manager Brian Cashman received a call Tuesday from Scott Boras, who represents Bernie Williams, but told the agent that he wasn't prepared to talk about a contract for Williams just yet.

"I told him it's for another day," Cashman said. "In the event that there's a role here for Bernie, it would be in a secondary role, not an everyday situation. How we approach that every winter, it doesn't get pushed up front. We'll deal with bench players after we tackle the bigger areas of the bullpen and how can we upgrade center field."

The Yankees do not believe left-hander B.J. Ryan is serious at this point about signing with them as a setup reliever, preferring instead to talk to teams who would make him their closer. Because of that, the Yankees have been aggressive in their pursuits of other left-handed relief pitchers. They continue to talk to the agent for the Giants' Scott Eyre, a durable lefty who may prefer to stay in the National League. And they have expressed interest in Mike Myers, who has worked as a left-handed specialist for the Red Sox for the past two years. Also interested in Myers are the Mets, Red Sox and A's.
