right now, a split is a necessity for you guys i think. regardless of home field for games 3 and 4, you don't want to be facing elimination that often. coming back from 3-0 last year was a great accomplishment, but you really don't want to put yourself in that position to begin with.

Clement looked worse than when Contreras was in NY.

AND, no one wants to be on the brink of elimination often. 0% margin for error. AND, if it goes to game 5, we match up either Arroyo or Clement, who both are insanely unpredictable, against a relentless, ass-hauling Contreras. Contreras is not what he was in NY. He is a 100x better pitcher, and possibly one of the best in the MLB. If he kept pitching like this throughout the whole season, no doubt in my mind he wins AL Cy Young.

with a win tomorrow by wells. that would bring the next two games of the series to fenway with wakefield and schilling pitching. making the red sox the favored team

I expect Wells to win tomorrow. When you look up "big game pitcher" in the dictionary you will see David Wells there. Plus you guys hit Buherle pretty good. I would expect a Red Sox win. As I said in the other thread. Game 1 was the only game I felt the White Sox had a big advantage.

Contreras was flat out unhittable. It would be intresting to see if the White Sox were to fall behind 2-1 in the series if they would come back to him on 3 days rest.

and game 5... lets just say im hoping any day now to here Clement has been shut down for rest of 2005, he's our version of NY's Vazquez. Clement in his last 5 starts has allowed 25 Runs in 18.1 innings, three of those startsn lasting 5 innings or less.

Id rather have Bronson Arroyo, or even Lenny DiNardo do game 5 opposed to repeat of Clement this series

Uh...here's a thought:

What about starting Papelbon?

something i would very much hope for. but knowing tito "hes our 8th inning guy right now". most likely they would stupidly put clement back in if a game 5 is needed, and also the ALCS series

That really is amazing. The Vazquez comparison is a good one. Vazquez in the first half was flawless. Then the 2nd half came and he couldnt get anyone out. He was serving up HR's like they were hot cakes. The difference with Clement that I see if that he just flat out wild. He hits batters, walks alot of people. He gets himself into trouble.

if Clement hadn't hit those 2 batters in the 1st inning, the entire game would probably have been different

Thats like saying if Mariano Rivera didnt walk Kevin Millar last year in game 4 things would have been different. I dont like using "If" because you can go on and on about how things would be different.

Wait, I also just remembered. If we got to a game 5, using travel days (2 of them between Boomer's start tomorrow, and 2 game days at Fenway)...we could ALSO use Boomer on normal rest.

If Wells would be going on normal rest then its a no brainer to use him in game 5.

I only comment on that since we were talking about how Clement gets himself into trouble. But you're right, I don't really like dealing with "if's" either.

But thats the thing thought. Its been the norm for Clement over this 2nd half and over Clement's career. He has the stuff but he cant take that extra step.

I just checked the schedule and there is only 1 travel day in this series. Which means that if Wells were to go in game 5 he would be going on 3 days rest. I would still go with Wells when you consider the options. If your the Red Sox you hope that you can finish them off in 4 because that game 5 will be tough.

Uh, that's weird. No travel day between possibly going back to Chicago for a game 5? Interesting. Hmm...then looks like Papelbon will have to be a big possibility.

Yeah its the same for the Yankees and its worse though. They have to leave the east coast and fly all the way to the west. Not an easy trip AT ALL. I would guess they would go Wells. David will certainly take the ball. But as I said before the Red Sox have to hope it doesnt come to that.

No, papelbon wont start a game because hes pitched too many innings this season and they're not going to over work a rookie. It isn't gonna happen. Have to wait till next year for that one. BTW, is dinardo on the roster? That is a guy who i would really like to see pitch. He has impressive stuff and good location, and I'd rather see him pitch then clement. Without a doubt. I think dinardos worse can't be any worse then clements and dinardo has more upside since he isn't a wild head case.

I doubt that they would put DiNardo on the roster for this, but they may have.

It would be pretty stupid to start Papelbon in game 5 because it eliminates him from bullpen use in games 3 and 4. He may be able to pitch an inning in game 3 then come back and start game 5, but I think it makes no sense being that he is pretty much the main setup guy with Bradford.

Scary start to the postseason. Clement continued to struggle and the Bats just couldn't do much against Contreras while the White Sox lite our pitchers up. Hoping Boomer can pitch a good game and the bats can get going against Buerhle and we can tie this series up 1-1.
