Chen, Orioles out to stop losing streak

New York (92-64) at Baltimore (70-86), 7:05 p.m. ET

The Orioles were handed their season-high ninth straight loss Monday as Jason Giambi's three-run homer off Rodrigo Lopez catapulted the Yankees to an 11-3 win. The O's have been outscored 60-35 during the streak and are 0-8 in this stretch of games with the Yankees and Red Sox. They have three more matchups with the Yankees, including Tuesday night when Bruce Chen tries to earn his 13th win. Chen appeared headed to a sparkling outing last Thursday at Yankee Stadium, but he allowed a three-run homer to Jorge Posada in the sixth inning and ended up with the loss. However, Chen has been the most consistent pitcher this season for the Orioles and has likely cemented a spot on the 2006 staff.

Right-hander Mike Mussina came of the disabled list last Thursday and tossed six innings, allowing just one unearned run in the Yankees' 7-6 win in the Bronx. Mussina would be slated to pitch in a possible playoff-deciding game against Boston on Sunday. Mussina is second on the club in strikeouts and issued just 46 walks. The Orioles offense has produced just 13 home runs in September, one more than Toronto for the fewest in the Major Leagues. Sunday was the first multihomer game for the O's since Sept. 1. If the Orioles finish the season without a 30-homer player, it was be the third time in the past six years that has occurred. Miguel Tejada leads the team with 26.

I guess the O's decided to try a little tonight. 1-1 after Gibbons doubles in Castro, 2nd and 3rd, 1 out.

Make that 2-1 on a Surhoff ground-out. Runner on 3rd, 2 down.

What the f*** Chen? If you are going to walk Giambi everytime, why not hit him and bruise him up a little?

And what do you know, Sheff's hits his 2nd HR off you after walking Giambi for the 3rd time with 2 outs. Stupid motherf***er.

This is going to be a long game 7-6

You got that right. The Sox may be fresher tomorrow after a double-dip than the Yankees are after a marathon that goes deep into the night.
