Clement ready to stymie Orioles

Boston (89-64) at Baltimore (70-83), 4:35 p.m. ET

With nine games left, the Red Sox trail the Yankees by one in the American League East. They will try and shrink that deficit by downing another divisional foe -- the Orioles -- for the second time in as many nights on Saturday.

Backed by Manny Ramirez's bat and Bronson Arroyo's arm, the Sox rolled to a 6-3 win in Friday's series opener. This time, they'll try to get a strong performance from right-hander Matt Clement, who has struggled his last few times out.

The Orioles, who have lost six in a row, counter with left-hander Erik Bedard.

Pitching matchup

BOS: RHP Matt Clement

• 13-6, 4.65 ERA in 2005

• 2-0, 4.05 ERA vs. BAL in 2005

BAL: LHP Erik Bedard

• 6-7, 3.78 ERA in 2005

• 0-1, 12.46 ERA vs. BOS in 2005

Player to watch

David Ortiz doesn't have a hit in his last 10 at-bats, making it likely he will induce his wrath on the Orioles in this one.

Quotable

"We just have to keep playing and forget about everything, win as many games as we can right now." -- Ortiz

Quick hits

With a win on Saturday, the Red Sox can improve to .500 on the road. ... On Friday, Ramirez joined Carl Yastrzemski as just the second Red Sox player to hit 40 homers in three seasons. ... Johnny Damon's quest to win the batting title is slipping away, as the leadoff man is down to .315.

I just tried to start my own game thread (would have been my 1st). He beat me to it. Oh well YankeesSuck did a much better job.

Yankees just lost. I think this is the biggest game of the season up until this point.

as YanksHater said....

This is no doubt the biggest game of the season since the series vs. the yankees at their place. This game is huge!

(I actually wrote this post like 10 mins ago, but my kids got in trouble and I couldn't submit it).
