Phillies, Padres, Red Sox win coin tosses

September 23, 2005

NEW YORK (Ticker) - The Philadelphia Phillies, San Diego Padres and Boston Red Sox all emerged winners Friday as Major League Baseball conducted coin tosses to determine sites for potential two-team tiebreakers. Trailing the Atlanta Braves by four games in the National League East Division, the Phillies would host a one-game playoff should the teams be tied at the end of the regular season. The Padres hold a five-game lead over the San Francisco Giants in the NL West. They would host the Giants should they tie.

After falling out of the American League East lead and behind the Cleveland Guardians in the wild card race, the Red Sox won a coin toss that would give them a home game against the Guardians if the teams tie for the wild card. Any one-game tiebreaker would be scheduled for Monday, October 3.

I agree with Schil. I'd rather have us face New York in Yankee Stadium, just because of the fact that we've seen so much of New York that we have more of a chance. Also for what it's worth, I still think Cleveland is better than the Yanks.
