In Edgar's defense, that run would have scored even if he fielded it cleanly.

 

I still question using Bradford against Crawford. Bradford doesn't get lefties out, and you can't let Crawford on in a close game. He's just too damn fast. Myers was available.

 

More importantly, bad defense earlier in the game is what lost the game tonight. Three runs, two after the 2nd out in the 3rd when Wells didn't cover, and one that Damon dropped, should not have been on the board tonight. They seem mentally detached from the game right now.

dishonorable mention: Harvill took the loss (but still gotta give props for gettin out of bases loaded with 2 outs), papelbon hanging a splitter for a 2 run homerun. bradford giving up the go ahead run (even if rent hadnt made an error he still wouldve scored

disgusting mention: wells and clement back to back bad short outings giving up 11 runs in 4 innings

 

best offense: David Ortiz with a HR, Double, Sac Fly (4 RBIs, 136 major league leading)--Alex Cora with his 2 out 2 RBI triple

dishonorable mention: Manny un clutch like striking out to end the game and went 0 for 5 tonight, Millar guiding into back to back double plays, Varitek was still given day of work when Mirabelli had feasting numbers off of Hendrickson

 

best defense: manny's outfield assist to gun down the runner ith varitek cleanly blocking the plate

dishonorable mention: edgar get better with the fielding errors, johnny would you frigging start to learn again how to catch fly balls and pop outs??

I agree with the take that this team seems "detached". They haven't played with any urgency or intensity in whay seems like weeks. I also don't understand Tito in leaving Bradford to start the 8th against the lefty. We all know Bradford is horrible against leftys, and Mills has the stat book to prove it.

How many errors does OC have with the Angels...the answer is 5!!! He doesn't have as good an average as Edgar but his Hr's and rbi's are in the same ballpark.

i agree with you on varitek, if you saw the stats youd see terry shouldve given tek (3 hits in 16 at bats) the day off and give mirabelli the start (8 hits in 14 at bats against Hendrickson). tomorrow is very much so a must win schilling vs the hittable Seth McClung, look for cora to get the start as tony g's hamstring strains have acted up again

just a side track i thought was pretty funny: im playing my mvp baseball 2006 on ps2, where the sox are actually winning right now haha, im in 2nd season of dynasty mode and the Yankees have traded off Mike Mussina for Kenny Rogers (perfect fit in NY ). First pitch of the first game of the season Johnny hits a line drive that hits Kenny's leg which takes him out. at end of game it says rogers is out for rest of the season

Wow I understand your a little upset, but the yanks don't suck. it still may come down to the last weekend, but I think the Yanks taking the series last weekend may be what defines this race. I not getting my hopes up, but I can still sleep soundly tonight.
