 I haven't seen those yet.

They were selling them all the time outside Fenway after games, but the last 2 games I went to have been afternoon games and I havent seen those guys around... I don't know if it is just because they aren't around after the afternoon games or if they stopped selling them. I hope not, because I'm waiting to pick up a V-TEK IS A BEAST or V-TEK IS MY DRINKING BUDDY t-shirt :D

I don't understand why the Red Sox are trying to be so PC this season. First they don't want to have the ring ceremony when the Yanks were at Fenway now they're banning T-shirts and chants. Give me a break. The best thing about sports are rivalries, and this is the best rivalry there is. I don't see how the word "suck" is going to warp a childs mind. Fact of the matter is you can turn on the TV and hear, and see much worse. This country is becoming very soft, and constantly ignoring our so called "freedom of speech"

theyd need a security guard at every aisle at Fenway, beacuse when theres a yankees game there especially during the September stretch, it has been done in abundance. what are they going to do, kick 3/4 of the 35,000 out of Fenway Park? haha i mean cmon i always see kids around me chanting that as well

Oh no, I hope Boston isn't turning into Seattle. I can't belive this was happening. When this was happening in Seattle (Somewhere around 2000), I thought this would never happen is Boston.

What, civlized? If, you know, the Yankees did indeed "suck", I'd be up in arms as well. The thing that sucks, is they really don't. They're pretty good. Considering the chant stems from a serious inferiority complex, I'm glad they're taking the proper steps to squash that out. Let the focus be on the Red Sox for once. Maybe people will stop obsessing over the Yankees for once. Probably not.

The whole "Yankees Suck" thing isn't actually about them sucking, as a team, in how they play ball. At least for me it's not. I mean, it's pretty obvious that they are very good team, otherwise, they wouldn't have won as many championships as they have, and they wouldn't be only a game and a half back from tying us for the lead in the AL East. I think it's more about the rivalry, and Boston fans are just ingrained to hate the yankees. It's like traitorism if you don't. I have my own reasons for hating them..(Here's a couple- Jeter's a cocky little bastard and A-Rod's just a flat out douschbag..i have more but i wont turn this into a why do you hate the pinholes thread)they're just a team every boston fan has learned to love to hate. It's just the way it is. Anyone with half a brain can see they dont actually suck on the field.

Just because some people are offended with the word "suck" and they think its bad sportmanship...that no reason to take away a tradition that has been in effect for years. I think it's wrong. While I understand why a parent may not want to have their kid hear that while at a family outing to Fenway, on the other hand, a little healthy competition never hurt anybody. It's not like we're chanting swears and saying we want to kill them or anything. We're just saying they suck. I don't see what the big deal is.

Who says you have to wear a shirt emblazoned with the word Yankees to prove you hate the Yankees? I figured it's pretty much a given that if you're a Red Sox fan, you dislike the Yankees. And a given that the two teams are rivals. I think it really shifts from rivalry to obsession with the opposing team with stuff like this. And that goes for the idiots with "Boston Sucks" shirts as well.

I myself, don't wear the "Yankees Suck" Apparel. I just don't think it's right to ban it. Each to his own, and people should be able to express themselves that way if they want to , regardless if others like it or don't like it. Unless it's causing violence and mayhem (which I know it sometimes does, but not the majority of the time) then why tell people they can't wear it? Ok, don't sell it *at* the ballpark. That I can understand. But to ban people from wearing it or saying it entirely, when you're at your home ballpark, where you should be able to feel free to dog any other team you want? I think it's dumb. What's next, people won't be able to say they hate the yankees? Or will we just have to sit at the park with our thumbs up our asses saying nothing? Perhaps it seems this may be an extreme way to look at it, but the suppression always starts somewhere, and I'm sure people that make a ritual of wearing it and saying it are feeling this too.

A common misconception, the Red Sox have, and never will sell the stuff at the ballpark. It's vendors outside of Fenway that choose to do so outside of Fenway Park. Saying "they", the people who ban the shirts, sell them is analogous to saying "they" also scalp tickets outside of the ballpark, when it's pretty obvious that is not the case.

OK, so *vendors* sell it outside. Whatever. You're still at the park, and someone is selling it. The point is...if people want to wear the stuff, they should be allowed to. There shouldn't be a ban on it. It's just plain stupid and unfair.

They sell Italian sausages outside of the park as well. You can't bring those into the ballpark either. I'm sure the economical ramifications of spending twofold inside of the park is a much bigger issue than this alledged "freedom of speech" problem, but they both are simply rules of the Red Sox in regards to conduct inside their building.

Posted
I realize that. I'm simply stating that my opinion of this new rule...is that it's stupid. People should be able to wear what they want. Regardless of however many arguments you throw in here...I'll *still* think it's dumb.

Actually, you did a lot more than that, which is why I responded in kind. Anyways, we can all move on now.

I don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but "Boston Sucks" shirts have been banned since 2002. I did however see a very nice "Buck Foston" shirt when I was out the other day.

I really don't care what people wear to the park. Personally, I think it's fun to see people with that stuff, adds to the flavor of the rivalry when you are at the park. But of course, PC rules all.

I mean the whole thing is kind of funny. The Sox / Yankees rivalry has been going on for generations. I mean really, I don't know of any selfrespecting Sox or Yankees fan that's going to let a T-shirt do the talking for them. Nor is any " Yankee's Suck " chant going to much of an effect on a Yankee fan. But is does give something to do and get the juices going a little.
Posted
You can take the "yankee suck" shirts off the people but not the people off the "yankees suck" shirts...or something like that. I'm saying, ban the chant, ban the shirt, it's not going to make a difference. Sox fans are just going to find more creative ways to get around it, but saying the same thing.

The Buck Foston shirt is a perfect example of how fans and vendors a like will get around this. They will just come up wtih more original ways to express the theme "Yankees Suck" on a t-shirt. Which actually will be better because it means there are more shirts and more ways to say the Yankees suck.

My guess is that the Red Sox organization does not want to be liable for the actions of rowdy Sox fans.

It is possible that some Yankees fans got assaulted by RS fans inside Fenway Park, and their lawyers might have argued that the RedSox club is responsible because they sell alcohol as well as “Yankees Suck” T-shirts, hence they’ve created a hostile environment for the Yankees fans. So, this ban is probably a decision that was made by lawyers, and not RS officials. I do not really think John Henry gives a damn about Yanks.

Selling alcohol “overly” to young men could lead to intoxication, and combine that with an anti-Yankee environment + youthful indiscretion then you got the perfect storm for troubles.

Don’t they hold bar owners liable if they serve too much alcohol to their customers who later get involved in drunken drive?

I think the latter, at least it applies to minors. For adults, maybe not.

I don't really see it as a problem because it's just words or whatever, and for the most part American sports might get uncomfortable at times, but it's not to the point where you fear for your life, which is a major problem at European football (using the correct term, heh), where if you wear an opposing team's jersey, you might get whacked with a beer bottle. :(

This is definately something I had not thought of. It will probably double the amount of shirts insulting the Pinholes...so therefore, we have found the silver lining to the cloud! Thank you MC! I still think it's rather silly, but at least we are forced to be more creative in the way we say it... :dunno:
