Heard it on Fox Sports Radio yesterday.

 

Major League Baseball officials received at least a dozen phone calls yesterday regarding a rumor MLB was about to announce that Roger Clemens and Johnny Damon had tested positive for steroids, with an announcement coming today. "Total BS," one official said. MLB and the players' union had released a joint press release last week, vehemently denying that more prominent players had tested positive in the aftermath of Rafael Palmeiro's failed test. -- 8.18, from Gordon Edes' Red Sox notebook

 

Yea right, sure MLB and the players union never mislead anyone! That would still surprise me if either of these players tested positive, though.

I have no idea but what does that have to do with Damon on roids... Anyone can grow long hair if they want.

But the fact he grew all that, then it came back fairly quickly after he shaved it, is a possibility. And yes, SFIT, it is a side effect.

I was kidding Boston4SportsFan, with the comment on Damon's hair. I don't think he or Roger Clemens are or have been on steroids, I'm just telling everone a rumor that I have heard.

I thought hair loss was a side effect of anabolic steroids, so I looked it up....

In addition to the mentioned side effects several others have been reported. In both males and females acne are frequently reported, as well as hypertrophy of sebaceous glands, increased tallow excretion, hair loss, and alopecia. There is some evidence that anabolic steroid abuse may affect the immune system, leading to a decreased effectiveness of the defense system. Steroid use decreases the glucose tolerance, while there is an increase in insulin resistance. These changes mimic Type II diabetes. These changes seem to be reversible after abstention from the drugs.

I highly doubt this, but if damon got cught his market value would go really down.

Clemens though, I wouldn't be too shocked.

Why soxie? He's a big guy, but Clemens always seemed to me to be a guy with values (just let the Piazza thing go already). It's natural Rocket fuel?

 

As for the steroids and hair relationship, I've associated with steroids stimulating hormones to grow, in general. "Anabolic = growing or building." But most sites I've found, while noting a "masculinizing effect", it applies more to females.

Why do all these people doubt Damon is on 'roids? It honestly wouldn't shock me.

 

All steroid users aren't always those big muscle heads who have 80 inch arms. You can hire a trainer to give you a specific ammount at specific times and it will jsut make you faster and stronger without the huge gain in body mass. For example Olympic sprinters.

 

Damon is a truck and would not shock me at all if he did it.

Look at this point I don't think Damon or Clemens has tested positive. MLB put out the word that they haven't and if it now turns out they have, then who will ever believe MLB again? It is also possible that someone initially tested positive, then the rumors started, but the players appealed and they were granted relief, their appeals were deemed to have merit for some reason.

However, sizzlin is right the obvious juice heads like bonds, sosa and sheffiield and giambi are monsters, most guys aren't stupid enough to go from puny warning track hitters to roid's animals...it's too obvious, alittle help though isnt beyond the imagination for anyone johnny included. however, he's too cool for that and the MLB has apparently cleared him anyway.
