Continuing my game threads of the Yankee games, 2-1 record for me so far. Go White Sox!!

Garland set for opener vs. Yanks

Yankees (65-54) at White Sox (74-44), 7:05 p.m. CT Friday

It's easy for players to say that no one series is bigger than another, but when the Yankees come to town all that talk is thrown out the window. The White Sox host New York for a three-game series beginning on Friday, and though the awe factor of facing the star-studded team has worn off for a veteran like Paul Konerko, the excitement of facing them never goes away. "Every series [the Yankees] play against every team in the league, that team tries to bring their best game," Konerko said. "That's just the way it is, and they still produce and they still win. No other team has to deal with what they have to deal with. Maybe Boston, I guess."

That determination to bring the best comes even in seasons like this one, in which the Yankees aren't leading the Major Leagues in many statistical catergories and even trail Boston in their own division race. For Koneko and his teammates, it doesn't matter if the Yankees are not the powerhouse team of old, because Konerko knows that the team is dangerous in any meeting. "You know they have all the stars and you know that if you give them an inch, they're going to take a mile, as far as scoring runs [goes]," Konerko said. "But I also think it's good, because it raises your level of play."

The Sox are just hoping that Jon Garland is able to be the pitcher he has been all season when he takes the mound on Friday. Garland has struggled in some of his recent starts, but is still having the best season of his career. This will be his first outing against the Yankees this season and it comes at home, where he has a 10-3 record and a 3.31 ERA. Mike Mussina will get the start for New York. Mussina faced the Sox on Aug. 8 and picked up his 11th victory of the season as he allowed two runs on eight hits in six innings of work.

Pitching matchup:

NYY: RHP Mike Mussina

• 11-7, 4.00 ERA in 2005

• 1-0, 3.00 vs. CWS in 2005

CWS: RHP Jon Garland

• 16-6, 3.47 ERA in 2005

• Has not faced NYY in 2005

Hopefully Chicago can do better against them then they did the Red Sox.

And that is the coolest home run call in baseball

wait, i thought everyone thought that saying was annoying? im sorry but last time i was on here people were asking me why is the whitesox announcers like that when they hit HR's?

yeah your probably right, i think you were one of them who said it too, if not im sorry for accusing you, but this stinks Paul Konerko isnt playing because he had a strained back thing during batting practice lol

lol you know it's pathetic when you trust your team to win more against the white sox than you do against the devil rays, but surprisinly i find myself happy that we don't have to see sweet lou and his gang in the opposing dugout. last series the yanks had with the white sox the yanks clung on tight and all were one run games. let's go yankees!
