Lately he has not instilled in me a feeling of confidence. He gives up big time home runs and doesn't seem dominating. I don't like him as a closer and want him to get back to the form of last year. I love the guy and hate seeing him get beat up like this.

You know.

How many runs/blown saves does the guy have to give up to make terry realize the experiment has failed? He'd help boston so much more in the rotation. I don't see why it's a sin for timlin to close, he's done it before. Schilling is detrimental to the team as a closer.John McDonald just owned him, now if that doesn't send a wake up call, I don't know what does.

i totally agree with you, make timlin the closer. as a starter it takes a couple of inings to get the splitter going. he cant do it as a reliever.

Schilling should be the Sox number 1 starter, not their 9th inning go-to man. It's not his role. I think the Sox were stupid in their decision to make him a closer. They should have given that to Embree and given Schilling enough time to get his endurance and arm strength and whatever back because Schilling is a very powerful force in any starting roataion, especially in short series in the post-season.

Ok i agree with you about schilling but Embree Come on Now, thats crazy talk

His velocity is back. All he needed is a rest. I still would never trust him though.

Well who else would you have used? Maybe Bronson I guess, but then you have a major hole, he has been pretty good thus far.

Am I "dissing" Timlin? No, not at all. Just got the names mixed up that's all. I've been hearing Embree's name a lot now and I don't watch the Sox everyday so I jumbled the names. Brain fart, again, my bad.

well at least schilling knows that he isnt doing good, hand over the job to timlin

"You can't cost your team games trying to learn a job," Schilling said. "You can't do that. There's no excuse for what happened.

I think careful consideration has to be given to shutting him down. There must be something still wrong, and he either needs to work this out in the Pawtucket or just shut him down and save him for next year. This is no time for blind trust. He's not effective and getting into late August he cannot be allowed to keep hurting the team.

its official the schilling/closing experient is ovah! After tonight it should be blatantly obvious he is no Dennis Eckersley. Hell, I'd take an Eric Gagne about now, but either way he is just not effective as a closer. I've seen some of the games where even when he did get the save, he was shaky...giving up a walk here, a double there, and I don't even want to mention the homeruns.

He wasn't exactly on fire when he left Pawtucket, but because he and mngmt were in a hurry to have him join the club asap, the thinking was even in the bullpen he might be able to work out the kinks and rediscover his game....well it hasn't happened...and even worse, he has been detrimental to the team, giving the yankees confidence about their chances to sneak back into the race for the division.

Now I appreciate what he has given the team in the past, but at this point if he's still gonna stay on the roster he needs to rejoin the rotation ASAP!!! If he is going to rediscover any semblance of he former effectiveness as a #1, its gonna be by grinding it out starting and not closing.

You guys all want to make Timlin the closer but then who is the set up man? Your closer doesn't matter if your set up man can't get to him.

I think we should bring papelbon back and try him as the closer. The kid throws hard, locates well, and I definatly think he's capable of getting 3 outs a night.

I don't really like moving Curt back into the rotation just because he has failed so miserably in 1 inning that I don't even want to think how bad it could get after 6 or so. I guess that's what we're going to do now, and move either bronson or wade to the bullpen. I guess I'm OK with this because it will make the bullpen stronger, but I just don't think Curt is ready to start again.

id rather have bronson in the bullpen, on average he throws under 15 pitches of the 1st innings of games this season, feel bad for him he deserved that win working his ass of last nite. And with Wade he averages 25 or more pitches and has allowed a run to cross in 1st inning 16 of the 20 games he has appeared in

I agree with the Papelbon move. I think Timlin's best role is as a setup guy. Papelbon can shut the door a little bit more reliably than Schilling. I hate to say it but I think Schilling should take the rest of the year off and if he can get himself back into playing shape maybe he can be strong enough to pitch like Schilling in the playoffs. A hurt Schilling is worse than no Schilling at this time.

"Is that 10 consecutive 0-2 pitches that have been hammered? Every other rocket off him in the White Sox series was an 0-2 pitch and tonight's lousy, game-ending split was also on an 0-2 pitch. This fantasy that he's going to return to the rotation and help us seems implausible. Can you imagine seven innings of hanging splits, poor location and ringing line drives? Good pitchers do not get ripped on 0-2 pitches." -- 8.15, Kevin Hench on the new Curt

on cold pizza they just did a "should curt start" segment, and skip bayless still thinks he should close and admires him for his guts.

woody paige said he should start. Closers should not get decisions, he is 3-3. And has a 18.50 ERA in his last 3 games. He also said timlin should close.

Hate to break the news......Curt Schilling is not going anywhere. He is the closer and will be the closer until Foulke proves he can be useful. I think you all are forgetting how awful Foulke was. He was just pitiful. Curt is 9/11 in saves and we dont have any other options. Moving Timlin into the closers role makes no sense whatsoever. He is one of the best at doing what he does. We have no other options, and please don't say "Craig Hansen can do it" because he can't. Trust me, if Curt Schilling can't do it, neither can Hansen. We have to live with what we got.I hope Foulke comes back and it lights out, but until then Schilling is the closer. Please think back and remember how god awful Foulke was this season before deciding he will be a better option than Curt.
