ok dude through August of 2004 he was batting just under .300 (35 hits for 125 at bats) with 8 HR's, 23 RBIs, 21 Runs, 12 Walks, 38 Ks--last season he was batting .364 with RISP--with RISP and 2 outs, was batting .412

this season however yes he is in a slump, he is batting .206 (20 hits for 97 at bats) with 4 HRs, 14 RBIs, 10 Runs, 1 SB, 11 Walks, 35 Ks--- with RISP batting only .185---with RISP and 2 outs, batting at .154

Mirabelli is a career .242 hitter who had a very good season last season. Even if he hits .200 he is still the best backup catcher in baseball. Who cares what he does at the plate. His importance relies on his ability to catch the knuckleball, which by the way, is something that Varitek had a hard time doing. Varitek actually led all of baseball in passed balls for a few seasons after catching Wakefield. Mirabellis defenseive performance has been outstanding for almost three years. He gets paid to catch the knuckleball, not hit .300.

Remember last year's play-offs. It was hard to breath watching Tek catch Wake. It was down right scary.

Mirabelli has done the best job ive ever seen someone do with Wakefield. Years back Hasselman did an ok job, then Varitek was his personal catcher with Hatteberg starting a few years back and Varitek was awful. He simply could not catch it.

Then we saw him in the playoffs last year and every pitch also made me hold my breathe like you did BrentD. If another ball skips off his glove the season was over.

If Mirabelli doesnt get another hit all season, I am fine with it. His value is unmeasurable as Wakefields personal catcher.

Mirabelli is what he is a great back-up / catcher for Wakefield and an occasional display of pop offensively. He not an everyday catcher or a 300 hitter, most teams would love to have him.

Exactly Sox fan on the Cape. I love the people who call in on WEEI and say "He has some power, maybe he should start more". HAHA. Its like they expect him to produce .300/20/80 if he were to play more, when in no point in his career has he shown the ability to produce abover average offensive numbers.

BTW...Mirabelli is the best backup in baseball.
