and he does...that has nothing to do with dougie or mueller.

millar hasnt delivered this year, and while you have so eloquently pointed out he has improved his anemic year after the all-star break--I contend he should be doing more.

I contend he gets on base, not exactly what we expected from him, naturally we owuld want better power numbers, but so long as he actually gets on I'm satisfied.

I contend that he should be getting at least a few more rbi's, god forbid the occasional clutch hit, some home runs might be nice, some fielding lessons, sonme running lessons and a permanent tongue--ectomoy

I agree he should never be anywhere but first base, there isn't really anything he can do about him being slow. He does his job at the plate, at least as far as Theo's moneyball OBP stuff. Oh yeah, I contend.

I still contend that he isnt doing his job, and that since FDR could get down the line faster, those measly singles and walks dont do s*** for the team. OBP is fine and dandy but kev, doesnt need to hit singles--he ought to be kicking in the odd home run or rbi.

kevin being kevin.

On base percentage is important-- if you're Adam Stern or Johnny Damon, someone who can help themselves score with their legs. For a slow bitch ass like Kevin Millar, he's not helping the team by walking or hitting stupid crappy singles. He depends on the bottom of the order to drive him in.

It's perfectly acceptable for someone like Juan Pierre (Florida) to be a singles hitter because once on base he's capable of stealing a base, going from 1st to 3rd on a single, etc. If Millar's on first, you need at least 2 hits (possibly 3) to score him.

Regardless of what position he plays, Kevin does not do his job offensively. I'm so sick of people praising Kevin for his cheerleading abilities. Let's face facts here: Kevin Millar's career postseason stats: (.239/ .327/.348)

He hit .125 in the World Series last year, .250 against the Yankees with NO homers and 2 freaking RBIs. This guy doesn't hit in the clutch, he doesn't hit away from Fenway, he plays below average defense, and is the fatest singles hitter in probably the history of the game.

Kevin Millar is a waste of a Red Sox uniform.

why is everyone up in arms about Millar's lack of home runs? The run-support has been awesome this season. as long as Manny and Papi are knocking them out, which they are, that's all I care about

Because this team cannot depend on Manny and Papi to carry them all the time. I believe it was Rob Neyer who said it best when someone asked him why Kevin Millar's non production was such an issue (and I'm paraphrasing here since I don't have access to his stuff): Since productive first baseman grow on trees, you're doing your team a disservice by playing some so un productive.

I still have yet to hear anyone give me one good reason why Kevin Millar shouldn't be manning the Hot Dog stand instead of playing first base every day.

Fact: He's in the bottom 5 in defensive first baseman.

Fact: He's in the bottom 2 in offensive first baseman.

Fact: He's an annoying loudmouth.

Fact: He doesn't hit in the clutch.

Fact: He doesn't hit on the road.

Fact: He's very slow.

I wish I had the time to look this up, but I still contend that he's the fattest singles hitter in the history of the game. It really is a shame that they've had a better offensive player who wouldn't cost them defensively shuffled between Pawtucket and Boston 4 times now.
