MINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- Reigning Cy Young Award winner Johan Santana faces veteran lefthander David Wells when the Minnesota Twins meet the Boston Red Sox on Saturday.

Santana (10-6, 3.65 ERA) is just 2-4 at the Metrodome this season. He had a personal three-game winning streak snapped in a 2-1 loss to Oakland on Monday. Santana struck out seven and walked just one.

In his only start against the Red Sox last year, Santana struck out 12 and allowed just two hits in eight innings.

Wells (9-5, 4.45) has dominated the Twins in his career, including last Saturday when he yielded two runs in seven innings of a 6-2 win at Fenway Park. In 37 games and 24 starts against Minnesota, Wells is 19-6 with a 2.27 ERA and three shutouts.

His effort a week ago was part of Boston's eight-game winning streak that came to a crashing halt on Friday. Brad Radke tossed seven strong innings and was backed by a 16-hit attack that included Joe Mauer 's three-RBI effort in a 12-0 victory for the Twins.

Minnesota's breakout came on the heels of a 1-7 stretch in which the club never scored more than five runs.

This weekend is kinda boring for talksox. Yesterday was the slowest day we've had in a while, and today isn't shaping up to be much better. Summer weekends, oh well. Might as well go out and enjoy the sun. I'm going to six flags tomorrow! woohoo.

good news here in todays yanks/blue jays game that is currently in the 5th inning, with jays on top 6-4. Johnson was only able to pitch through the first 4 innings, giving up 10 hits, 6 runs with a walk while striking out 3--Proctor has since relieved him

um dude there will be relief pitchers that follow him--well hopefully if sox are able to do what they do best at times, drive up the opposing pitcher's counts--like take millar who does at least once a game, having a 10 pitch at bat

Won the lottery in the beggining of the season then shelled out the money. I'll raise you one better. I'm gonna get like 40 feet worth of twine tie something signable to it, attach a pen, and dangle it over everybodys head during BP untill one of them signs it.

The Twins have an excellent bullpen too, so this will not be a high scoring game.

Then again this is baseball, and some crazy ass s*** happens.

That is sweet!

Screw a Talksox sign. Make a sign that reads "I KNOW REDSOXROOTER!"

That would OWN.

Yanks lose, Sox up 3-0. So far, so good. :)

Nice Red Sox lead 3-0 in the Top of the 6th Inning. Now that the Jays beat the Yankees 8-5 the Sox need to win tonight and put New York 4.5 back.
