Manny Ramirez and Edgar Renteria, both sprawled on the outfield grass in short left field in the top of the second inning on Wednesday night against the Royals.

Ramirez had raced in to short left to make a catch on a ball hit by Ruben Gotay. Renteria had went charging back, not knowing if Ramirez would be able to get there in time. Right as the ball landed in Ramirez's glove for the final out of the inning, Renteria plowed into his teammate, smacking the left fielder across the face with his glove.

All things considered, the Red Sox got out of the situation in pretty good condition. Ramirez and Renteria both came off the field under their own power. Ramirez, whose nose was bloodied as he left, was diagnosed with two contusions, one on the right side of his chest and the other on the right side of his face.

He was taken to Mass. General Hospital for precautionary tests on his right eye, but he was thought to be OK. The red-hot slugger is day-to-day.

He got a freakin bloody nose. There's nothing wrong with him. He could easily play today. But as Elsbrueno said it'll be a nice excuse to take a week's vacation. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if this becomes a 'lingering injury' like his hamstring last year. But the plus side is we can play something else on Renteria. I hate him.

i agree with riverside, shut the f*** up, what do you have against rent, just cause he's more successful than you.

and manny is not gonna take a WEEK OFF just take his word that he wants to be in boston and wants to win another world championship, isn't that enough for you, its coming right out of his mouth!

That's nice talk, what is this a two for a sale. You dump on both Manny and Renteria. Let's see all they were doing was playong all out to get to the ball. This is the way winning teams play. Thhe injuries although not serious, require some caution. Renteria injured his wrist ( again ) and Manny had the bloody nose, poke in the eye, and contusions to the ribs.

hey remember back in 2003 johnny damon and damian jackson collided into each other on almsot exact same play, though Johnny didnt fare at all better than manny and rent. he had to be put on a stretcher and sent to the hospital. he had these side splitting headaches for 2 months and still gets them sometimes. it couldve been a lot worse, but i can see if Manny needs the one day today off, the red sox medical staff did list him as "day-to-day", so i dont see this at all as Manny is paying them off or something dude, so he can get more time off

Riverside, have you heard the starting line-up yet ?

if you saw the play you'd probably not be so hard on manny, who as we all know hit another 3 -run bomb in his first at bat.

They both went down like a sack of potatoes.

I dont know about you, but if his bulb hurts ...would you want to stand in against a 90+ mph fastball..I dont think so.

How can you hate..rent?

crazy stuff.

you tell 'em riverside!!!

Manny will sit out for todays game and could come in late innings as a pinch hitter if needs be, terry stated his vision is currently not what it needs to be. Tony Graffanino is out for today because of family issues, but will make it to the park as soon as he can

not the greatest lineup but against the royals, clement surely strong enough

Your an idiot. Renteria over the year grew into my favorite player on the team. The guy is a great player and a great guy. He has a brilliant glove, and after slumping for a bit in the early part of the season he can hit. How many times have you heard "Renteria has been a problem in the clubhouse"? Never. The guy is the anti Nomar.

What really impressed me about Renteria is how he said "I'll move over to third base for Hanley Ramirez" Athletes in this day and age dont ever give up thier position under any circumstance, Derek Jeter didn't even switch for a A-Rod, argueably one of the greatest shortstops to play the game, and Renteria said he will move over for some prospect who started in AA this year. He is really the most impressive person on the team to me.

Did Renteria say that before or after his fifteenth error?
Renteria makes plays on balls that most short stops in the league don't even get to. As I said before he had a rough start both offensively and defensively. He's been solid since.

Renteria has been very very underrated this season. He started off slowly but he's always been solid defensively, despite his errors and his hitting has gotten better and better.

Wow what does Renteria need to do before some people will start appreciating him. This guy is acting like Renteria needs to have Manny like numbers. I would rather have Renteria at SS then Cabrera anyday.
