I feel bad for him, an all around good guy and a hell of a player

Hunter has broken ankle, out until at least September

August 1, 2005

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Gold Glove center fielder Torii Hunter has a broken left ankle that will keep him out at least a month and possibly the rest of the season, a major blow to Minnesota's playoff hopes. Hunter had an MRI and CT scan Monday, which revealed a small fracture in his ankle. He was injured in Boston on Friday night, when the four-time Gold Glove winner tried to make an acrobatic catch by scaling the right-center fence at Fenway Park. The Twins initially feared Hunter had torn a tendon in the ankle, which probably would have required surgery and forced him out for the rest of the season. There is no tear, team spokesman Mike Herman said, but Hunter will be on crutches for three to four weeks.

It's discouraging news for Minnesota, which loses its best defensive player and a leader in the clubhouse. Plus, Hunter's 63 runs, 24 doubles, 56 RBIs and 23 steals are tops on the team. He's batting .269 with 14 homers. The Twins, who had lost eight of 10, began the day four games behind Oakland in the AL wild-card race.

I hate when such a great all around player get injured like that. It was painful to watch, I can't imagine what it must have felt like to him. I wish him the best on a speedy recovery.

Torii is a great player, and seems like a great guy. Really hate to see someone who gives 100% every game get injured. Hopefully he'll be back before the end of the season, because theres no way the Twinkies can win that division without him.

He's out for the year. I fell bad for him. I read an article about how his dad takes drugs and torri was trying to cut him off.

I'm so upset about this. Torii has always been one of my favorite players. He is an incredible player and person. I wish him the best and hope for a speedy recovery.

Haha, yeah, I saw that. He and Jim Edmonds make those awesome HR-robbing plays.

Crespo, I guess you're going to use that asterisk after Bonds* every time his name comes up? In a way I think a star is a touch too nice for those guys. Maybe an asterisk by Maris and Aaron indicating that they're the true holders of the records, "true stars of the game" if you will, and a strikethrough whenever Bonds or Palmeiro comes up.

I'm being cheesy, but oh well.
