Pittsburgh got it. Expect them to draft Sidney Crosby. They say he's the next Mario Lemieux. I just hope the Kings will do a good job in the 11th pick.

Wow... Eh, I think it was rigged to where he was going to a team in a market that was struggling to survive. Pittsburgh fits the bill.

Now he'll get to play WITH Lemieux. Cool.

See Red: Hi Oliver Stone, welcome to the board. :D

If that were the case, they should have made it Nashville, but the problem is nobody still cares about Hockey.

David Beckman could play over here, and no one would watch soccer still.

True, but Pittsburgh is a market I'm sure they really want to survive -- and without a little help, it wasn't going to last much longer, despite Lemiuex's best efforts.

I wanted to see him end up in Phoenix or Colorado. Because Colorado is my team, and Phoenix because I think it'd be cool to see him playing under Gretzky, who named him "The Next One"

You honestly think Gretzky is going to coach? Who would've guessed that TAMPA, of all places, would win a Stanley Cup. :dunno:

The rule changes might be just as crucial to help the game; making it easier for offense, instead of game of trying to score on Goliath. <_ hockey fun to watch in person but it doesn translate the screen as well.>

A) if it was rigged, it would have been rigged to benefit the Rangers. Its always good for a sport if its major franchise in its major market is making the headlines, in this case good for the NHL if the Rangers are doing good, good for the NBA if the Knicks are doing good, etc. Im not saying it because im from NY, its been said time and time again by analysts and experts, its a fact.

B) it couldnt have been rigged, because if you watched the whole thing they explained how a rep from every team, an NHL rep, and a rep from some law firm were all in the "secured location" where the lottery took place and would have seen if a team had more balls then they were supposed to.

When it came down to the Ducks and Pittsburgh, i was pullin' for the Ducks. It doesnt fit that a guy whose being billed as the "next Lemiux" (sry if i spelled it wrong, i was never a big hockey guy, baseball is my specialty :) ) to play on the same team as him. But true, Pittsburgh hockey needs all the help it can get as it was on the verge of relocation at one point.

You honestly think Gretzky is going to coach?

Im pretty sure he was already named the Coyotes coach...could be wrong because as I said im not big into hockey, but im pretty sure.

Dear, you could've scrolled up a couple bars and see that it was posted at least twice. Nevertheless, you just missed the 'e'. ;)

No, nothing's final on Gretzky's "coaching status" yet. Coyotes, everyone waiting on Gretzky One would think that they have better things in AZ to be interested in?

For anyone who cares, 2005 NHL draft order.

The Rangers already lead the league in Total Revenue. They don't need the help. Besides, if the Rangers were to win it, they'd be grilled for this 'conspiracy' just like the NBA. I would think if the NHL were to rig it, it'd be for a market that is struggling to survive -- because if those markets don't, the NHL hasn't a chance. Without Crosby, Pittsburgh was in serious trouble and was very much in danger of relocation -- and I'm sure Pittsburgh is a market the NHL would like to keep.

thanks for confirming, i thought that he had been anounced coach during the lockout...i do know that he is in the front office though....and i didnt think of scrolling up to see the spelling lol

Ha, new rule: No more ties! That's nice. If the five-minute overtime isn't enough to decide the game, there will be a shootout afterwards.

Though a point is still rewarded for an OT loss -- which sucks. A loss is a loss, in my opinion. Oh well, no more ties.

I think they should do away with fighting, as well.

Some people argue that it's as much apart of hockey as arguing with the umpire is in baseball. But there was one player who took a blind-sided punch and ended up paralyzed - so I would not be opposed to enforcing rules against fights. <_>

Shoot-outs are a mix bag for me. If it's a team game...it completely ruins the point. It'd be like kicking field goals back and forth (and the Patriots would probably still win).

I agree that it's a part of hockey, and believe me, there's nothing like a good ole' hockey fight (Why do you think I used to love the rivalry my Avs had witht he Red Wings?) -- but they've enforced new rules to speed the game up, why not get rid of hockey? It's unnessecary. Everyone says no matter how little they like hockey, they enjoy watching playoff hockey. Well, there's not many fights in playoff hockey, is there?

I feel the same way about shootouts -- but I'd take that over a tie, anyday. And it's not like you can have the guys play it out like in the playoffs.

Yeah, I guess you're right. If I had a better way, wouldn't be sitting here right now. They're exciting - as a soccer fan I can't deny that (yeah, that's right) until they pan over to the rest of the team just sitting there on the field, holding hands, afraid to look. If defense wins championships, then shoot-outs place defense-oriented teams at a disadvantage; if they have great defenders to keep the opponents from scoring, but have forwards that can't score a lick. :dunno:

Oh, and I thought I'd mention this to you Red Sox fans who hate A-Rod (the majority?) - David Beckham is much, much worse. <_>

The NHL thinking about expanding the number of play-off teams - right, the regular season has to mean less than it already does.

Stocker and I had the privilege of seeing 3 AHL games this year, and I really like these rules. Luckily one of the games was a shootout, which proved to be an amazing game. I really liked the shootout - fun, intense. The tag up offsides rule was good as well. But one thing I am really glad that they didnt do no touch icing, because I hate that with a passion.

They anti-rigged it, since the Rangers had the worst pick out of the 3 chance teams. I'm dying for hockey to come back. Rangers are going to be exciting to watch, they've got a s*** load of young guys. It will be interesting to see how free agency shakes out.

The best place he could have winded up in, would have been Toronto.

Format

Each club will play eight games against each of its four division rivals (32 total).

Each club will play four games against each of the 10 non-division clubs in its conference (40 total).

Each club will play 10 inter-conference games, hosting one game each against all five clubs from a designated division and traveling for one game each against all five clubs from a different division. For the 2005-06 season, Northeast Division clubs will host the Pacific Division and visit the Northwest; Atlantic Division clubs will host the Northwest and visit the Central; and Southeast Division clubs will host the Central and visit the Pacific. Division vs. division assignments will rotate annually.

Features

The new schedule strengthens division rivalries; division rivals played each other six times under the previous schedule.

The new schedule maintains integrity of the conference-based playoff format; each club continues to play 40 games against non-division, intra-conference opponents.

The new schedule allows for continued exposure of teams and star players from the other conference.

The new schedule allows for more compelling television matchups, thanks to the combination of stronger division rivalries with continued intra- and inter-conference play.

I really, really can't wait for hockey.

^ Huh? :D Oh sure thing - "strengthening rivalries", ok Bettman...desparate much?

Bettman begs fans to return

Btw, there will be no NHL ASG due to 2006 Winter Olympics.

Of course he's that desperate. What, you think the old schedule will make fans return? The new schedule is like the baseball schedule. You don't think it'll help the hockey fan base? I like this new format.

As for the All-Star Game not happening, only if the NHL sends players to the 2006 Winter Olympics, which I don't think they will.

Well interleague in baseball is really something for the fans (which may be the point); there's not really a rivalry between Yankees-Mets or Cubs-White Sox, as there is in Yankees-Red Sox and Cubs-Cards...

EDIT: And the best rivalry of them all...Dodgers-Giants!! Only one to have switched coasts!

This guy learned from David Stern, goodness. Expect to see Sidney Crosby's face plastered to anything and everything hockeyhockeyhockey (cute face, but what's with leagues riding the hopes on kids - Adu, now Crosby? :dunno: )

The NHL canceled it just so players could go and represent their country if they choose to - *cough* they're not like the NBA players?

Now that the game will speed up, will they bring back the glowing puck? :D Two pages on the NHL! Apparently we care enough to not care.

You forgot the best rivalry in baseball, Dodgers-Giants (IF you go by statistics). For the interleague, it's Dodgers-Angels. Arte Moreno promptly made it more "exciting" by calling his Orange County team a Los Angeles team.

LOL, of course I knew about Dodgers-Giants, but that's divisional, not interleague. I hear Oakland fans despise Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (of United States of North America, we know, we know), but that's once again divisional, although they have something with the Giants as a Bay Area thing.

Good point. I had never thought of that. Though, teams that are defense oriented usually build around, or atleast have, good goalies -- so I guess that works to their favor a little bit.
