Rumor on ESPN is red sox and twins are talking about a trade that would send bill mueller to the twins for JC Romero.

Romero

Romero would be nice to have, but Bill Mueller is tough to lose

Posted

The Red Sox have called the Twins looking for pitching. Boston is believed to be interested in lefthander J.C. Romero, who could help stabilize a bullpen that had a 5.51 ERA entering Monday -- the second-highest in the American League.

The Twins, of course, are looking for hitting, and the Red Sox might be willing to deal veteran third baseman Bill Mueller, who is batting .277 with four homers, 36 RBI and a .379 on-base percentage.

Mueller was the 2003 AL batting champion when he hit .326 with 19 homers and 85 RBI. Those numbers fell to .283, 12 and 57 last year. He is making $2.5 million and will be a free agent after the season.

First baseman-outfielder Kevin Millar also is available, although he indicated to Boston reporters he would prefer to stay with the World Series champions.

I hate that trade....

Bill Mueller is a switch hitting team player that is working on a potential gold glove this year. He comes up with big hits and works pitchers well.....there has to be another option for a lefty to take Embree spot.

Exactly, this trade is retarded :thumbdown

Bill Muellers is probaly one of if not the hardest working player on the team

Mueller is not somebody that needs to go. He's one the pieces holding this team together.

Yeah he is deffinitly part of the solution....we need to be upgrading the right side of the infield more than degrading the left side. And if you are going to degrade the left side get something more than a reliever.

I agree with the masses here, I like Mueller a little too much to pull the trigger on this deal. He's very solid with the glove and the bat, he battles, he plays hard, he puts the team first, he's everything you want in a player.

Kevin Millar on the other hand (quoted from above) I'd part with for Romero in a heartbeat.

The more I think about this.....Romero would be awesome but not for Bill Mueller. I think our bullpen hopes still come down to Keith Foulke. He needs to regain form and be the closer of this team. I've said a few times I want Billy Wagner but Romero would be cheaper and has been pitching well in the AL. He would be a great lefty to replace our beloved Embree. Having Romero, Timlin, Myers, and Bradford would be a very stable bullpen....Schilling will do well as the closer BUT...Foulke needs to come back and reclaim his place.

For no other reason than to let Schilling reclaim his place as the leader of this rotation.

Hell maybe we can talk to Minnesota about Morneau

I dont think theyll trade morneau. hes part of the future for the twins and is only 23

He would certainly be expensive....two of the Sox top prospects and maybe something else....but if you were going to move top prospects...why not for another top prospect?

On a side note I've heard from a lot of scouts and people who observe the minors closely....that all say Hanley Ramirez is better than Aaron Hill and Robinson Cano

Aaron Hill - .341 AVG, .398 OBP, .478 SLG

Robinson Cano - .302 AVG, .324 OBP, .465 SLG

.....as long as he can show some games at 2B.....I expect he jumps up soon....I really want to see what this kid can do

What will he cost to keep him next year? If Theo isn't willing to pay it, the Sox will loose him anyway. I hate waiting until the offseason to settle these matters.

If you have no interest (like in Lowe's case), fine. Make it clear to everyone. We had to sweat out Tek last winter. I'd much rather get Mueller and Damon confirmed for the future, than have to worry about these kind of moves before the deadline.

You may be right I just dont want to see a collapse by this team because they lose a club house favorite....then again Millar is kinda the same way.....ugh I wish they would just all pick it up a notch so nobody has to get traded

Something tells me we will see a trade but it will be something no one was ready for and its completely different than what we read....Theo is good like that with keeping moves under the radar

Players do come and go but the Red Sox will remain competitive no matter the move...whatever is best for the team

Red Sox, Twins could strike deal

Lefthander Alan Embree was designated for assignment. This was slightly surprising considering the 35-year-old had pitched better of late. The Sox have 10 days to deal Embree or release him. Embree was 1-4 with a save and a 7.65 ERA in 43 appearances. With lefthanders Mike Myers and John Halama, the Sox felt they were protected for the time being out of the bullpen. But the Sox are one of several teams (as many as 12 according to one major league source) pursuing Twins lefthanded reliever J.C. Romero.

The Twins are looking for a third baseman and would like to have Bill Mueller, a low-salary veteran who is solid defensively and would be an impact hitter at the Metrodome.

A major league source also said the Twins would consider Kevin Youkilis, and the deal could be expanded to include a Minnesota starting pitcher.

''There's still a lot to be worked out," said one Red Sox source. ''[Romero] walks a lot of people, but he's got good stuff and he strikes out someone when you need it."

Boston Globe

Might not be a bad deal if they include youkilis and could also get a starting pitcher such as Carlos Silva????

The Mets' Roberto Hernandez intrigues the Sox for the set-up role, but for now, the Mets believe they're too close in the National League wild-card race to begin selling off players.

How about Kevin Millar for Hernandez?????

i guess that is do-able since Tony G is very capable as well of playing 3rd base. Hell the guy is so talented that in his 13 year career, he has played all infield and outfield positions, something that is very good for tito to have on his bench.

graffinino at 3rd and bellhorn at 2B with romero as setup guy isnt bad as long as bellhorn does something good when he comes back. cora shouldnt be playing everyday
Posted
for offense, cora isnt your guy--but dude you gotta admit he made up for his offense last night, doing those unbelievable plays

he is a defensive upgrade to bellhorn and is batting only .14 below bellhorn

Posted
He had a good night. He's not an upgrade in defense.

He also had that error.

Cora had no errors last night, he made 2 plays the Bellhorn wouldn't have gotten to. Cora has more range then Bellhorn, he's a better defensive 2nd basemen, ask any baseball expert and they will tell you that.

Cora made a great toss to Edgar to try and get the double play, but Edgar had dropped the ball before he could get it in his glove, giving Edgar the major league leading 18th error of the season.

No you are right but Bellhorn can still play defense.....it is very true that Cora has more range and is good at turning double plays.....

Did I hear right that Renteria leads SS in errors???? ugh

I thought this was all about us getting Romero?!!..can we please talk about something related to the subject!!

k sorry lost in the moment, it soemhow keeps getting referred back to bellhorn should be off to another team haha. I def think Boston should instead send Youkilis to Minnesota than Bill Mueller who is already having a gold glove type year and also been clutch hitting when its bases loaded. With Bill Mueller most likely out of Boston next spring, Tony G could easily take over 3rd base than youk could since this guy is a 13 year veteran ballplayer.

I highly doubt Tony G is a replacement for anyone...he is just a fill in and utility guy....could you see the Red Sox going into a season with him as there starter.....not happening...good player...not happening

They would make a big sign but more likely....If Youk was traded away Mueller would be resigned....I dont think he would be as expensive as some think....certainly not out of the Red Sox range....if anything it would just impact the negotiations with Damon making it realistic to sign him back.
