Schilling got the next 3 out as I recall. Facing Sheff and A-Rod, the best hitters in the game, arguably, is not exactly easy.

Ok if it was Embree you'd be off your ass screaming he sucks, lets face it Schilling is not meant ot be in the closer role, we need him at the front of our bullpen. Getting the next 3 doesn't help.

that is not an option right now sizzlin22. so we just need to deal with schilling right now. i think he will adjust and kick ass before its all said and done. on the other side of things. maybe he will never thow 96 again and his career is all but over. but that cant be determined by one outing as "schillingthenatural" said in one of the toughest spots any pitcher let alone one that hasnt pitched in months.

All that talk about Schilling made me remember this interesting info.:

Television analysts offered some interesting insight into Curt Schilling's appearance in the ninth inning of last night's game.

Rick Sutcliffe, on ESPN2, quickly analyzed that Schilling wasn't pushing off the rubber effectively with his surgically repaired ankle, saying he ''had no drive at all.'' ''I'd be surprised if he's thrown in this role again,'' he went on to say. ''He's not ready to pitch at this level.'' Dennis Eckersley offered his thoughts after the game as well. ''Throwing the splitter shows there's no confidence in your gas [fastball],'' he said.

From that rotoworld thingy on BDD. That guy who managed philly last year also said that on baseball tonight.

You made my point for me, he hasn't piched in months, and we're not even sure if he's 100% healthy, so why do we immediatly throttle him into the closer role?

Let's face it the man is not in the position to take the closer role. He's clearly not what he was before and he hasn't pitched in months, so here's a brilliant idea, lets bring him in in the top of the 9th in a tie game with two of the most feared hitters in baseball, that worked out well.

Bottom line here we can't just toss him into the closer role and hope that he gets better as fast as he possibly can, the closer is too important for that. What should have been done, and what I believe should still be done, is let Schilling come in during middle relief innings and let himself gradually work himself towards getting better and getting more used to pitching to major league hitting and THEN put him in the closer role, when he is, or at least appears to be ready.

tottaly When i saw Pedroia play in spring training against Arizona. He out hit Mueller, Millar, and Ortizzle. So this kid has enormoums potentiol they should bring him up for a couple games and if he does good we shud get rid of smellhorn.

Pedroia's time is coming. Rushing him to the bigs I don't think is the answer. As it stands now, he won;t even get a full season of triple A. He'll probably get a September call up and might be in spring training next year with the Sox. I would have thought Theo might have made an effort to get Brett Boone.

Hey dumbass it was Schills idea to go into the pen plus he isnt ready for 7 innings of work. He still isnt pushing off his bak leg he needs to get stronger. And u might be 1 of those big fans of bellhorn but he HAS STRUCK OUT 108 TIMES!!! Pedroia has struck out 39 times in 120 AAA games.

Just because it was his idea doesn't mean that he is ready for the closer role.

AAA is a lot different from MLB level. And K's aren't the only thing that counts.

I checked his IP. Not used by anyone else, but we'll keep a close eye on him ;)

I bet you if we sent bellhorn down to the minors he would strike out just as much. And plus thts 120 games though, 39 k's in 120 games is incredible.

That would be 39 times in 120 minor league games, not just AAA. In AAA has only played 14 games, so we can't really use that as an indicator. The fact is that he just joined AAA, it will be a big jump from AAA to MLB, and I think bellhorn is better at the MLB level then Pedoria is right now. If we are lucky he will be starting next year, but he isn't good enough right now.

schilling did work effectively 1-2-3 inning giving the sox a chance to try to come back in a 7-4 game, only throwing 11 pitches. He has now retired 6 straight batters in his first 2 relief appearances for the sox

Pedroia isn't exactly destroying AAA pitching and certainly hasn't earned a promotion to the active roster. He is hitting .254/.354/.368 with 0 HR, 4 doubles, and a triple.
