What trades do you see in the red sox future? Here are my predictions.

Kelly shoppach+$$$ to mariners for Eddie Guardado.

By deignating boone for assignment, the m's proved they are ready to make some dramatic moves and may begin to invest in their future. The red sox might also deal for boone.

I read that Eddie Guardado would veto a trade to the sox.

Thanks for playing. Try again.

I was thinking that the list of teams he made up was of teams which he thought had dominant closers, in which he wouldn't be used as a closer, rather in a setup role. Now that Foulke is injured he may reconsider. Or it may be for a totally different reason.

One thing that WEEI said was that Theo already had a deal in place for Payton, and that trade would be announced around the All Star Break. Sounds like maybe they're working out final details? SOMEthing's in the works, and it seems like if it was a minor deal they would have already announced it. That's just a hunch though.

if theo trades him, ill be very pissed

Lester's been lights out

Sox prospect Jon Lester threw a complete game one-hit shutout Monday night in the Portland Sea Dogs' (Double A) victory. Lester, a left-handed pitcher, struck out 14 in the dominating performance, and has struck out 25 batters in his last 14 innings. Epstein has said that he will not trade Lester in a deadline deal, but the pitcher remains one of the team’s most attractive assets and could fetch a proven major leaguer in a deal.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Bill Lajoie, special assistant to Red Sox GM Theo Epstein, was in Philadelphia this weekend for the Phillies-Marlins series. While the Sox might have serious interest in a certain Marlins pitcher (Burnett, who started Thursday), closer Billy Wagner has been floated as someone who would help stabilize a floundering Red Sox bullpen. Wagner, who has 20 saves this season and averages more than a strikeout an inning, will be a free agent after the season.

Sox take a look at old friend El Guapo

The Boston Herald reported that former Red Sox pitcher Rich Garces recently auditioned for Sox scouts in Fort Myers, where he is working out. Garces pitched well this winter, posting a 2.08 ERA in the Venezualan winter league. Although a Sox official gave the 34-year-old Garces a "1-in-10,000" chance of rejoining the team, Garces reportedly was throwing the ball well. Garces, who spent seven seasons in Boston and has a career ERA of 3.74, hasn't pitched in the majors since 2002.

oh please theo get this guy as well ;)

The Boston Globe reported the Red Sox are interested in acquiring Brewers reliever Mike Wise. Wise, a right hander with a 2.83 ERA, has put up stellar numbers this season. Lefties are batting only .136 against him, while righties are faring only slightly better at .163. The Globe report said that the Brewers were willing to part with reliever Ricky Bottalico, but not Wise.

El Guapo! 1 in 10,000 isn't so great a chance, but what the heck? Bringing back Garces (El Guapo) would be very cool. Especially if he could pitch well!

I heard rumors awhile back that Bottalico would LOVE to pitch for the Sox. The article basically said he'd give his left arm to join us. While he hasn't been as good as Wise, he's been better than most Sox relievers and would probably come cheaper. Another interesting arm in Milwaukee is Mike Adams, who has walked a bunch of guys but also has good strikeout totals in limited action.

Mike Adams? That'd be cool if he came, he has a really good slurve ball he can throw to RH hitters.

what do you guys think about Chris Hammond?? I know he is old but what an upgrade he would be over Embree. I heard a few rumors about him but nothing that has picked up any steam.

He's a good pitcher, but I don't see the Padres giving him up, (is that where he's playing?)

A Massachusetts native, it seems obvious New York Mets' pitcher Tom Glavine would accept a deal to Boston. He mentioned he enjoyed pitching in St. Louis and in Wrigley Field, but said although he liked the West Coast, it's unlikely he'd go there. He called Baltimore's Camden Yards a typical AL bandbox but does think he could pitch in the AL.

Tom Glavine would be expensive cost wise, but would be an interesting option. He grew up in the Boston area, is a veteran pitcher with playoff experience (won game 6 of the 1995 WS for Atlanta) and historically has had success in hitter's parks. He's a groundball pitcherbut has never had overwhelming strikeout/9 or strikeout:walk ratios. Even though they were never GREAT, both of those ratios are down this year. It seems like Tom Glavine is a pitcher on the decline, and at $10 million per, not worth his contract.

If he were DFA'd and the Red Sox could give up minimal talent and not have to pay a ton of money, he'd be worth a shot, but I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for Tom to come to Boston. I'd rank that as a long shot right now.
