MLB.com preview:

Less than 24 hours after being silenced by rookie Kyle Davies, things don't get any easier for the Red Sox on Sunday afternoon. That is when they'll go against one of the most accomplished pitchers in the game in John Smoltz.

The Sox counter with Matt Clement, who has done a solid job in his first few weeks in Boston.

This is the rubber match of the three-game series and the Sox are trying to avoid losing their third consecutive series.

Pitching matchup

ATL: RHP John Smoltz

• 3-3, 2.83 ERA in 2005

• 0-0, 0.00 ERA vs. BOS in 2004

BOS: RHP Matt Clement

• 4-0, 3.56 ERA in 2005

• Did not face ATL in 2004

Player to watch

Manny Ramirez crushed a double in his final at-bat of Saturday's game and the Sox hope he's finally ready to go on a hot streak.

Quotable

"Guys are starting to take better swings, have better at-bats, do better things, and then results happen later." -- Catcher Jason Varitek

The rain is supposed to come later at about 4. They should be able to make an official game out of this. I hope we win...I can't stand looking at Baltimore in first place anymore, even though I know there's still a lot of baseball left. Haha, and the Yanks I bet can't stand looking up at us...they gotta go through Pedro today...hopefully he'll kick some ass.

Go Sox and Mets!!

Dae-Sung Koo is a better hitter than Renteria. Did you see that swing he put on that Unit fastball yesterday? Not only that, but he's a lefty. If only he could play shortstop.

And Clement has pitched a pretty masterful game so far. 7 innings, 3 hits, 2 runs, 7 Ks... on only 82 pitches. Complete game in the making? That'd be pretty sweet.

That'd be awesome if Clement gets a complete game.

Looks like he's going to be out there for the 9th as no one is warming up. Great to see a good outing from a starter, especially with our somewhat shaky bullpen.

Our starting pitching kicks ass. Arroyo-Miller-Clement have all been outstanding. Wake shows his typical flashes of brilliance. Once Schill comes back and David Wells remembers who he is, we should be more than all set.

Wow, what a game. Besides all the men LOB it was fantastic. Manny and Ortiz hit well, Clement pitched a gem and our defense was good. Thankfully this game didn't have the rain either. Good job Sox. :)
