ok i was just checking stats but seriously hes got to get somethin done, hardly likely we will see him in sox uniform in 2006, but at least be productive to get offers from teams. do you know during sox's hot streak since beating the cubs on the 12th--ok now thats thru 11 games, 39 at bats, and just 3 hits??! and havin 10 strikeouts, so basically once a game is his average and now up to 83. he is a great defensive player, dont get me wrong now. but even fox announcers were talkin about possibilities of what to do with 2nd base, movin mueller or youkilis to there

Yeah. And Fox announcers know everything. I've never heard Don or Remy. Anywho...He's not a free agent like Mueller / Millar, you know, at the end of this season.

Yes he is, I believe he signed a 1 year deal in the offseason.

Get past the 81 whiffs, and there's nothing more startling about Mark Bellhorn's performance this season than his home-road splits. On the road, Bellhorn is batting .280 in 36 games. At Fenway Park, Bellhorn is buried below the Mendoza line, his .162 average 86 percentage points below the .248 he hit at the Fens last season. Bellhorn, who has not allowed his slump to affect his steady fielding, acknowledged yesterday he might be feeling the pressure to perform at home in front of fans who audibly groan after many of his strikeouts.

He's not on the list of free agents. He's under Sox control through the 2006 season.

The Boston Red Sox on Tuesday avoided salary arbitration with a pair of key contributors from their first championship team in 86 years, signing second baseman Mark Bellhorn and righthander Bronson Arroyo to one-year contracts.

Now he may be eligible for arbitration again but I'm not sure if the sox will want Bellhorn back.

i think maybe its good to keep him in second in batting order if possible, that is. They did a comparison on NESN's post game report, Bellhorn had started in #2 position last season in 98 games and was most productive there hitting 15 of his 17 homeruns
Posted
Yeah he's historically better when hitting at the top of the order. I doubt Francona will change it, but even NESN pointed out the differences and that they should be addressed maybe.

I say keep Bellhorn in the 2 and slide Edgar down to the 5. Edgar doesn't need Ortiz behind him he'll hit anyways and Bellhorn clearly excells in the 2 hole.

He's not a free agent. And I can see them taking him back just till Pedroia is ready. Which I doubt he will be by next year.

Why wouldn't he be? He's almost 22 NOW, he was drafted out of college (and college kids move up WAAAAAAAAAAAY faster than high school kids) and he's lighting the minors on fire. There is no question in my mind he'll be ready for the start of next year.

and he has hit like that before when several games he was in the #1 and 2 positions, to follow johnny is probably helping him more than follwoing mueller

Actually its more likely a combination of batting after Johnny (pressure of a baserunner on - less changeups, more fastballs, fewer breaking pitches) and batting in front of Ortiz/Manny (not wanting to walk him and face that 2 headed monster - more strikes). I think the latter has more to do with it. More strikes = better chance to get a hit.

Anyone in the 2 hole should bat better than they would in the 8 or 9 hole.

I gotta give credit where credit is due..great game by bellhorn..I dont think he'll be aorund next season howvere, but for now he's our second baseman and iclearly he has a big or two in him...good job mark...

now if we can get a couple of new relivers we'll be in fine shape.

nice game yesterday even after cumstain embree we bounced right back, and that shows character--i love it.

francona said bellhorn will be back in the #9 spot for tonite, kind of a shame, heres my fantasy lineup for the current roster

1. Johnny Damon

2. Mark Bellhorn

3. David Ortiz

4. Manny Ramirez

5. Edgar Renterria

6. Trot Nixon

7. Jason Varitek

8. Kevin Millar/John Olerud

9. Bill Mueller/Kevin Youkilis

Oh no i was just adding olerud and youkilis in cuz of replacement issues, have them be at same batting order as millar and mueller are of course. Having Mueller at ninth would be a good fit, cuz really then opposing pitchers would have to face johnny rite after him

I think it's far to early to give up on Bellhorn. He is obviously our weakest link in the lineup however he adds value to the #9 spot by getting on base for the top of the order. You could (I won't)even make a case with his .343 OBP that he should be batting #2 instead of Renteria (.320 OBP). The guys in the clubhouse like him, and I still think he is yet to come around. Maybe he will get motivated after having a good day yesterday. Obviously as we learned last year as it gets late in the season he may come up with some more big hits.
