The following discipline was announced:

• Both Boston manager Terry Francona and Tampa Bay manager Lou Piniella have been suspended for three games and fined an undisclosed amount for the inappropriate actions of their Clubs during the game.

• Boston pitcher Bronson Arroyo has been suspended for six games and fined an undisclosed amount for intentionally throwing at a batter during the bottom of the seventh inning after warnings had been issued earlier in the inning.

• Tampa Bay pitcher Dewon Brazelton has been suspended for five games and fined an undisclosed amount for his aggressive actions in the bench-clearing incident during the top of the seventh inning.

• Tampa Bay pitcher Lance Carter has been suspended for five games and fined an undisclosed amount for intentionally throwing at batters during the top of the seventh inning.

• Boston outfielder Trot Nixon has been suspended for two games and fined an undisclosed amount for his aggressive actions in the bench-clearing incident during the top of the seventh inning.

• Boston designated hitter David Ortiz has been fined an undisclosed amount for his aggressive actions during the top of the seventh inning.

• Tampa Bay outfielder Chris Singleton has been fined an undisclosed amount for his aggressive actions during the bottom of the seventh inning.

Unless appealed, all suspensions are scheduled to begin tonight. If appealed, suspensions will be held in abeyance until the process is complete.

I can't believe Bronson gets 6 games and the guy that throws behind Manny and at Papi's head only gets 5. Well its official that our rotation is getting worse by the day. At least Bronson can appeal so he gets his next start.

SIX?????

Arroyo will HAVE to appeal. If he can start serving the suspension next Friday after his Thursday start, Miller may be able to fill his spot the following Tuesday.

Eeesh, this is going to be one ugly week.

Ortiz was fined!? So you can get fined for having a ball thrown at 90 miles per hour at your head, then looking menacingly at the guilty pitcher? Really makes no sense to me. They should make a rule that whoever has a ball thrown at their head has free reign on the opposing team and doesn't have to serve a suspension, even if he goes Juan Marichal on their asses. :D

that would at least deter some of the pitchers from letting loose those fastballs to the dome. but seriously Arroyo will obviously appeal due to our current pitching situation. I would imagine that the suspension gets reduced a couple games too although because hes a pitcher it might be to just 5.

I agree with the 6 game susension for Bronson what difference does it make? If he appeals and it goes down to 5 he still misses 1 start and if they appeal it and it goes any lower than he dosen't miss a start and it defeats the purpose of the suspension.

How does Ortiz get away with a fine and Trot gets two games?

According to the ump he escalated the situation and made it worse than it could have been.
