In agreeing to the new deal, Wakefield announced he will donate $100 to charity for every strikeout he records in 2005, with $50 going to the Franciscan Childrens Hospital and $50 to the Jimmy Fund.

Sweet stuff. Often it seems that wake doesn't get enough respect.

The Red Sox will have the option to extend the contract for 2007 and any season thereafter. The contract will remain in effect as long as the club continues to exercise its yearly option.

Nice deal for the Sox. Wake could be in a Sox uniform for a long time if he pitches well into his 40s.

Its good to lock up Wake early on - he's been on the Sox for so long and deserves to retire as one. He obviously wont make the hall but they should find some way to honor him when he retires.

This is a very respectable move...Wake deserves this as he's sacraficed more than any athlete in a long time.* He can realistically go on pitching effectively for another 5 or 6 years (or more).

 

Tim Wakefield is one of the best team players the Sox have ever seen. They've changed his role about 47 times and he's never complained. Wake, it's great that you'll be back for another 2 + seasons.* As far as the 'C' on his jersey, maybe we should put an 'A' on Wake's Jersey, for assistant captain...LoL...

 

Anyways, I love this move -- a great gesture to Wake by the front office.* I can't imagine that he's asking for much more (if*any) than he's already being paid, and the the guy's a stud.* You can mail in at least 15 wins a year from Wake, and being a*knuckle-baller*he could probably pitch until he's 50!* *
