Matt Clement is the next Jason Schmidt. Look at what each one did to this point in their respective careers. Their stuff is very similar. Schmidt put it together at about 30, Clement will also. Dave Wallace, Jason Varitek, Curt Schilling and David Wells should all help in that effort.

Edgar Renteria hasn't been impressive at all. He's swinging at everything and making mistakes in the field. Damn.

Please tell me this will happen soon

Attention Sox fans: Relax. I think you need to realize that the Yankees at Yankee Stadium are tough to beat. We had a horrible first game, but we improved a good amount in the second one. There's still tons of games left...things will work out.

Guys, dont get on Renteria's ass already. Its been 2 friggin games for godsakes. How do you think Yankee fans felt last season when Jeter and A-Rod couldnt hit a f***ing beachball in the beginning of the season. Its 2 games, 2 losses, to a great team. Not a good start, but there is still 160 games left.

Yes. If anything, it's good for Renteria. He'll be trying super hard to impress now (which may, as it turns out, be bad, but oh well), and we know he'll give it his all, especially in front of the home town crowd. We may be 2 games back in the standings, but things have yet to fall in place. Today's game was a step in the right direction after opening day.

Definitely agree. After the 9-2 drubbing on Sunday, I was hoping we would play better baseball today and tomorrow. We did that today, we just weren't able to pull it out at the end. I'm not saying that taking 1 out of 3 should be alright everytime we face the Yankees, but today we played fairly good baseball and hopefully tomorrow we improve a little more and get the 'W'.

Schmidt- Age 29 in 2002: 185 1/3 IP, 148 H, 73 BB, 196 K, 110 ERA+

Clement- Age 29 in 2004: 181 IP, 155 H, 77 BB, 190 K, 123 ERA+

Similarities are scary, aren't they? You should be nervous. Once we get Miller back in 3 weeks, you should be very nervous.

Let them enjoy their game one and game two win...after all, when was the last series they took from us? If you count the postseason, we took the ALCS....I believe the series before that was at Fenway in which we took 2 of 3... so I think it was the last time we played at Yankee Stadium a couple weeks before last year ended.

Wow, those are grossly similar. I'm very excited.

I don't want to overreact to these two games, but it does look like the Sox could have used another week of spring training instead of opening up in NY.

Two things Schmidt has that Clement doesn't- control and being mentally tough. Clement=Weaver with slightly more control.

Yeah? So he can go on the dl after 1 start? Yeah, I'm very nervous.

Yanksin2010, you're just being irrational. Look at the numbers. Nearly identical. Schmidt had no control either. They have the exact same kind of stuff. Now Clement has Dave Wallace, Jason Varitek and Curt Schilling in his corner. Forget about it, this was a better signing than Pavano. The game he pitched yesterday would've been just as good as Pavano's if this team knew how to play any defense.

Oh, and since when is Clement going on the DL? Wishful thinking?
