Well since the first spring training game is tomorrow, I figured that we should start a game thread that will be used for discussion about all of the exhibition games.

Tomorrow's game is against the Twins and it will be on NESN at 7. Matt Clement will be starting for the Sox and Kyle Lohse will be pitching for the Twins. Not a lot of the key guys will be playing such as Manny, Ortiz, Johnny and Trot. But Renteria is scheduled to be in the lineup, so we will be able to get our first look at him.

Baseball! Hooray! And this is the one and only spring training game thread. All games will be discussed here, any new threads will be merged.

Oh happy day! For those without Nesn, it will also be on MLB.com for free. Even though he won't be throwing that hard, I want to see what Clement's stuff is like.

Yes, but us NESNites get 4 hours of pre and post game analysis!

It's bullsh^t that MLB Extra Innings isn't showing spring training games, but atleast I can watch it. Anyone know how good the reception is on the thing MLB.com offers?
If you go here http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/video/daily.jsp and click on the archived Mets game (top link), you'll get an idea. They use Real player for live games, which is cool because you can switch to Theater Mode and play it at 200% on a black background.

Obviously, the better the connection, the better the stream... I remember the games a couple of years ago when I had a 56k modem were really not that bad.

Ew, mlbtv uses real player? I hate that crap. Is there any option to use another player? I'll be relying on this service next year, and I have made a vow to never have real player installed on a computer of mine again.

Going to college?? ;)

I am right there with you on the Real player. They offer both Real and Media Player - but I find the theater mode in Real to be much more enjoyable. If you take the Real Player install REAL slow, you can set your associations, etc. then. But if you fly through it, Real will take over your machine. :thumbdown

Yea, what would you know about that geiser. :harhar:

Anyhoo, I'm glad they offer media player as well. I tend to blaze through installs. I'm impatient I guess.

Ah, now I remember why I don't like spring training games. There's next to no energy there. And Clement looks like he's struggling with his control a bit....but we'll give him a break. This time.

Yeah, it's a little less tense than the last few games we saw the team play.... Just enjoy it.

It's very nice seeing Tek in the "C" jersey, Youkilis made a nice clean play over at third, and I think Clement's 1-2-3 second inning is what we should mostly expect from him this year. Payton's double wasn't too shabby either.

BK was not very impressive to me. He threw one over a batter's head and gave up 2 long shots, which may have been homers if the wind wasn't whirling in.

Gonzalez looked good, and BK's velocity is back up to close to what it should be. I think he'll make a great righty specialist/long relief for us this year.

Take whatever velocity you see with a grain (nay, a pillar) of salt. It's the first game, they're going easy, and its damn cold outside.

I knew Alvarez wore his hat sideways like that, and I knew he was blind in one eye, but I didn't know that he wears his hat like that in order to keep the light in balance or something like that. That's pretty impressive.
