I'm personally very excited about our new trio of starting pitchers. Wells-Clement-Miller. Miller has the biggest upside, and I expect him and Clement to win 15 games apiece.

And assuming a healthy SP starts 32, that'd be over half the season he missed.

Which is why I said it was relative. It's impossible to say how many games he would have started.

He could easily reproduce his '01-'02 stats if healthy.

I think a guy who may play a key role this season, is a guy that nobody has really talked about and that's Ramon Vazquez. I know Theo and co. are are really high on this guy, and he can occasionally start, but more importantantly be a bat and speed off the bench.

matt mantei hands down. if this guy stays healthy and plays to potential we have the best setupman to closer combo in the league.

renteria is most definately not the best aquisition. look at who we had before him, nomar and cabrera. both who are at par or better than renteria. nomar is a lost cause for us, but for 8 mill (this season contract) he'll put up better numbers at a better price than renteria. cabrera who will be making 2 mill less per year than renteria will also be putting up numbers close to him (watch the ballpark factor).

as of now our best pickup is probably a pitcher, which one it is i'm not so sure just yet. but i think that if they are all healthy and play to potential i'de pick mantei just for the awsome 1-2 late inning punch with foulke.

The one thing with Mantei that bothers me more than all the others is his history of injury. Sure Clement, Miller and Wells all got injured last year, but Mantei gets injured EVERY year. I think 10 seasons in a row. :o

I don't see how this year will be any different unless they decide to pich him less. I guess in his new roll, he'll be pitching less anyway. But still, I think I read somewhere that he doesn't expect to pitch more than 50 innings this season. In that regard, he may not be as big an impact as Clement or even Wells.

But if he does stay healthy............

Hmm...

I think it's John Halama. Represents management's thinking about depth and potential.

Let's say everything goes wrong with Kim, Wells, Miller, and Shilling. There are so many possible starters you could still have a complete front 5. And I think Halama's ERA will go down in Fenway, Tropicana Field was made for stupid home runs.

I'd say Renteria. This guy is awesome, and will probably get better. I'd take him over Garciaparra (even though I love him) and Cabrera.

Wells & Miller are GREAT pickups. Wells for being a big game pitcher with an attitude and a lefty--and Miller's upside is huge. If he doesn't work out--what did we lose? I'm hoping Wells can pitch in Fenway though.

As a Yankees fan,i can't wait to see David Wells serve a hanger to Sheffield when it counts, and then when the ball lands in new hampshire he'll flip off the fans, curse at reporters, throw second base, punch an old person and swell Bourbon. What a guy!

Please. I am not a fan of the Renteria signing at all. Him and his .728 OPS :thumbdown
