I honestly cannot think of a position that we could significantly upgrade. I really like the way this team looks.

Call me crazy, but they really seem to be going with the "Patriot Mentality" perfected by Bill Belichick with the Pats when building this team. They're looking for team players and cheap deals. We got three starters (Clement, Wells and Miller) at a base salary identical to what Pedro is getting from the Mets. Guys like Trot Nixon, Mark Bellhorn, Bronson Arroyo, David Ortiz and Bill Mueller are all on cheap contracts and are all very productive. They're also putting more stock into the farm system, just as the Patriots have been getting fantastic useage out of their drafts. I love how things are shaking down in New England sports right now (except for the Celtics and Bruins, but we'll forget they exist).

I completely agree with that last comment. However I do think the bullpen could use a little work. I mean there is talk that the long reliever will be BK, if that is our strongest option than an upgrade couldn't hurt. Mantei is a nice addition, but Embree and Timlin aren't getting any younger, and I think another good arm would be real nice. Other than that I really like the team we have on the field.

Yeah, I meant to vote for relief but it didn't show up so just act like there is one for relief.

We don't need another SP, we already are overloaded. Right now we have 7 if you count Halama.

We kinda need a 2b, I don't have much trust in Bellhorn.

3B is a minor priority. I don't have trust in Mueller either, but I have more than Bellhorn. Plus, we've got Youky getting ready to come on up.

1B you can argue either way. I argue that we don't need an upgrade. I'd prefer for the defense of Minky and stay that way, we don't need an upgrade.

first base all the way...

someone should mutate millar into minky--combine their strengths and that would the guy. as it is, minky cant hit, or hasnt hit both during his time with the twins and with us... Millar--well, fielding isnt his strong suit..

I think we need to have a bat at first and I cant understand the affection for minky....all leather no wood, just dont cut it.

trade 'em both.

Why would you say that?? Billy has been nothing but solid for the Red Sox since we signed him in 2003. Ok sure he has had some games where he's been off but overall he has been solid both offensively and defensively. And despite a stint on the DL for a little while last season, he's been pretty healthy.

I have complete trust in Billy. (and yes, I am a little biased when it comes to him. I admit that. :) )

billy is the man, he was injured for a lot of last season and still contributed in a major way when he was in the line-up.

I cant even imagine how you can mention him in same breath as bellhorn.

3B is solid..christ the guy won the batting title in 03...

I bet ya they trade youk, because with billy healthy youk will have to go to pawtucket...

I'm with you Mueller 11...billy is fine by me.

The one thing I think we need is speed off the bench. Last year we had Kapler and then Roberts. Before that we had Damion Jackson. We need a base stealing threat off the bench, and I don't think we have one yet.

Oh, and as far as Mueller.... He only won a Batting Title in 2003. He's perfect for Fenway.

I agree that we do need the speed off the bench.

But I trust in Theo and believe he will find someone to fill that spot.

Thanks for all the support for my boy. :D

Well the rockies are interested in kim. I say we ship him off too the rockies and get some good bench help.

Yea, Colorado is a great place for a struggling pitcher to improve. I know he has no say in the matter, but his career is pretty much ruined if he moves to Colorado, no one will want him afterwards and he will have no chance to develop.

no chance to develop? He is washed up as it is, his fastball comes in at 82 and goes out at 100..

As I have said we would be lucky to get a one-legged bat boy, a used condom, and a tampon for that stiff.

Of course, you're wrong. Kim does have potential, and can be a very effective pitcher, even if you refuse to acknowledge that fact. You forget that he's only 25, and has shown that he can be an effective major league pitcher. I think you'd be suprised at what Theo could get for him.

remember this guy used to be a top-notch closer in the NL?

Unfortunatley I don't think Kim has the makeup for a market like Boston. He did well in AZ because there isn't the scrutiny that players face in Boston or other big market teams. I agree that he does have potential to be a great pitcher. He already has shown that. But I think it is also time for him and the Red Sox to both move on.

On another note, I'm excited to get the season started. I'm can't wait to see the team that Theo and Co. has assembled during the offseason. I look forward to another great season.

There are many pitchers like jeff suppan and bk kim that only pitch good in the national league maybe he'll get back on top with the rockies.

hahah. I cant believe there are still people who think Kim has some potential. He has thrown out his arm and I dont care if he's 25 or 15 he stinks.

Sure he was okay before we got him or we wouldnt have gotten him, sure he's young, sure he has potential-I mean who doesnt..Yankeesin05 has the potential to be smart, but clearly that isnt going to happen in this lifetime.

But the good news is that if some of you think he has a chnace maybe there is a sucker out there who will see something in this guy as well--okay then maybe we get a one legged batboy, a used condom, a tampon and an aging sarter.
