It's all over.

BREAKING NEWS: WBZ radio is reporting that it appears Pedro Martinez will be leaving the Red Sox to take a four-year, $50 million deal with the New York Mets. Nothing is official and neither the Red Sox or the Mets have made an announcement. Developing story

Well can't fault the man for looking for "respect" best of luck Pedro, he better own the Yankees twice.

Twice, when did he own us once? "What can I say, just tip my cap and call my yankees my daddies." Thats not what I call him owning us.

its likely, but the deal has only been OFFERED, there is no done deal, and even omar minaya says they are "still in it"...a bit of off-tone positiveness there.

mlb.com report

if i was in pedros shoes, id take the money and go to the mets, because he deserves the most amount of money someone will put out there for him. pedro wants the most money he can get, wouldnt YOU?

i hope he will come back, but now with the mets offering a 4th year, it is going to be VERY difficult for the sox to match it. i guess the only thing left is to sit on pedros loyalty.

if he goes fine, i wish him luck next year, if he comes back, ill be ecstatic.

4 years, $56 million is far more than the Red Sox have been willing to offer Martinez. They've been saying all along that they won't offer the fourth year, and now the Mets are calling their bluff.... If the Red Sox are serious about sticking to their guns, he's gone.....

The question I've got to ask is: Is Pedro Martinez worth $14 million per year?

Posted

LOL schill. anything under 14 i think pedro is worth. 14 for 4 years is really pushing it. he'll be 37 and i'm not sure if he'll be as good at that age. it's tough to say. the dodgers didn't let him start because they said he was too little to be good. he only become one of the most dominant pitchers to ever play the game.

the sox will not match that offer. i COULD see them giving him 4 years 52 mill offer but i honestly doubt they would take that gamble.

if i was pedro i'de be a sox, unless the mets can prove they are going to sign some better players and rid of some of those crappy contracts. but the again that's a crapload of money.

why, if the mets offered you 4 years 50 mill as opposed to 3 years 38 mill you'de probably do it too.

you cannot say you won't because you are not in his situation. 12 million dollars is a lot of money. most importantly so is that 1 year. he could be injured and never pitch the same (under 4 era). he would still sit there and be paid for it.

it's not a done deal YET. so we'll see. i don't know why people HATE players that sign elsewhere. if another company offered you more money to work for them you would work for them too. that's how it is in real life, not imaginary extremely biased red sox fan life. heh.

if the sox's counter offer was 40 mill to 41 mill he probably would have signed right then and there. oh well. i await the news.

it'll be tought but the money we save will come in handy when ben sheets is a FA in 06. i hope we don't overpay on renteria and tek.
