So this is what I heard....

The Mets are interested in picking up Manny in a trade. I don't want to see Manny go but this might work out since we would free up some money.

Mike Piazza's name has come up a few times. If some team is stupid and offers Varitek a 5-6 year contract then the Red Sox will probably lose him. Whatever team does that would be retarded for offering a catcher that long of a contract when he is over 30. Everyone knows Mike Piazza has a good bat and would probably do very well in Boston.

Next would be filling Manny's spot in the outfield. With the money saved the Sox would go after Beltran or Ordonez. Lose Manny.....add Piazza and Ordonez/Beltran. Hell works for me!

....I have not heard Cliff Floyd mentioned anywhere and no way in hell Theo would be that stupid.

Mike Piazza is not a catcher anymore. Here's simply another First base type (maybe DH in the AL) with moderate power, something the sox have plenty of as it is. Losing Manny and adding Piazza and Ordonez (Beltran is NOT coming to the sox, no matter what you think) is not worth it.

So your telling me Mike Piazza can't be a catcher anymore? Did he forget how? And he has moderate power? Jesus this is Mike Piazza buddy. Are you going to tell me Jason Varitek is a better hitter than Piazza? You surround Piazza with the Red Sox batters and lets see how he does. He blends perfectly with the Red Sox. He would be a great 5 spot hitter behind Ortiz.

But I understand Ordonez. I mean all the guy does is bat .300 every year with 100+ RBI and 30+ HRs. Huge downgrade from Manny plus its hard to lose Manny's glove in the outfield. Not to mention it would be horrible to move his rediculous contract over to another team. I think Ordonez could handle the 3 spot in front of Ortiz. Less strikeouts a year and 3 errors in the last 3 years. Manny has 16. I dunno I thought it sounded like a good idea.

Varitek is irreplaceable. Plain and simple. No one else has the same combination of defensive ability, contact, and a bit of pop as well. Sure Piazza might be able to play catcher once again, but he sucks back there. Just a complete liability. I'd rather have Varitek any day.

And on the Magglio issue: he basically broke himself this year. People thought his injury was career-threataning, and many still think he'll never be the same again. I would rather have Manny's offensive presence, defense, contract, and all, than $10 million invested in someone who may never even play again.

Manny to the Mets? I highly doubt it, but if they DO, they'd be stupid to deal him for Mike Piazza. Here's why:

They trade a DH who can play below average LF (Ramirez) for an aging catcher (who was below average defensively behind the plate to BEGIN with) who plays a below average first base.

Mike Piazza is a downgrade offensively from Ramirez

Mike Piazza is a downgrade defensively from Ramirez.

This team has proven that it can win with Ramirez as its left fielder. Why trade him for another good bat who is also a defensive liability?

that trade makes no sense to me.

Trade rumors amuse Ramirez

Red Sox outfielder jokes about reported interest from Mets

ROGER RUBIN

New York Daily News

BOSTON - Manny Ramirez charged into the Red Sox clubhouse on Saturday wearing a light blue designer trenchcoat and a big smile. His teammates were preparing for a huge victory parade to celebrate the team's first title in 86 years, and the World Series most valuable player raised the voltage even higher.

"Hey guys," Ramirez hollered. "Did you hear? I'm traded to the Mets. I haven't even had a chance to enjoy the parade and I'm traded to the Mets."

Ramirez had heard the news coming out of New York that the Mets might try to acquire him this offseason, but he isn't giving it much credence. For the most part, the slugger and his teammates were treating the reports like a joke.

"Cliff Floyd and Manny in the same outfield?" yelled Kevin Millar, who also played with Floyd for the Marlins. "I could be a defensive replacement."

At times over the past couple years, it has seemed like Ramirez might actually end up in New York, where he attended George Washington High in Washington Heights and has a huge following among the community's large Dominican population.

He once said he hoped he would finish his career with the Yankees after his eight-year, $160 million contract with Boston ends.

Last winter, the Sox placed him on irrevocable waivers, putting him up for grabs for any team that could afford his contract (a small group that includes both New York teams).

But much has changed for him the past year. In addition to shining during the World Series, he overcame his reluctance to give interviews in English, and has become more accessible to the media and to fans, who now adore him.
