Ater game one of the ALCS and seeing Schilling pitch like Lowe should we be worried? Schilling been threw a tendon injury most of the year and it seems to be catching up on him. So Sox's fans what do you think on Schilling and the games to come?
Posted

schilling was pitching with no right ankle. he had no pop on his fastball because he wasn't able to push off his right leg. i would have pulled him much sooner and put in myers against bernie. but whatever.

if ortiz ran through that triple he would have had an in the park home run, tying the game, giving us all the momentum.

Shilling is done. If the Red Sox are going to win the ALCS or the World Series, its going to be without him. Only hope is Lowe can somehow find it in him to get the job done. Not out of the question, but i am afraid: advantage Yankees. Plus, with Francona managing, I have lost the faith. I'm sorry.

 Something I don't understand about Sox fans. You are supposed to be true fans of the game. Give credit where credit is do, Schilling got it handed to him. Don't make excuses for him, and he shouldn't make any either. He did not have good stuff and the Yankees took advantage of it. That is what GREAT TEAMS do when they see their prey weak. They devour them.

Next, up Pedro.....

Yankees Payroll: Outta control

Shutting Curt Schilling up: Priceless..

And for Sox Fan in Tex. To your comment somethings money can't buy and for everything else theres talent.

Yankees are consistantly in the World Series, consistantly winning the Division and Red Sox always SECOND PLACE. If that ain't talent then you should not be a baseball fan. And if you really feel that the Yankees are not Talented, then that must make the Red Sox a Minor League team, since they always finish SECOND.

go away you scumbag.

let us worry about our team....

no one is making excuses, and if that was devouring us I suggest you look up the word, yoiu were lucky to hold on for that win.

It's morons like you that make me proud to be a redsox fan..

BE PROUD, there is nothing wrong with coming in Second. I did look at the game. Great game for baseball. Exciting in everyway. But the final outcome is all that matters.

Well i'm not gonna fan any flames here. Schilling did have an injury so he has a little bit of an excuse. That being the case Francona should have either pulled him ealier when he saw he was throwing more off-speed stuff and the fastball wasn't spotted, or not started him at all. It was an amazing game and I think Mussina looked incredible till the time when Torre should have pulled him and left him in too long. All credit to both teams.

PS:

``I'm not sure I can think of any scenario more enjoyable than making 55,000 people from New York shut up.'' -Curt Schilling

Not the best move to make when your injured and going into Yankee stadium. Just a thought.

very good post.

Not that I encourage your kind to be here, but that was a good post. And I agree with everything you siad.

It was stupid for schills to say that, not nearly as stupid as the Daddy crap-but dumb nonetheless. Talk about throwing meat to the lions.

Francona, should'nt have done a lot of things. The problem is he is too much of a jelly fish to do anything that requires having a set of hairy nuts between your legs. So the thought of that pussy striding out to the mound after two innings and having curt get pissed is inconceivable.

That said it was an exciting game and both teams do deserve a lot of credit.

I never thought it would happen but you have proven that there are yankee fans around with some class....

"It was stupid for schills to say that"

I wouldn't go so far as to criticise him for trash talk. After all, this is just baseball. Just entertainment. It's not as if the baseball heroes are doing anything to further the cause of human evolution. They are there to entertain, and Curt is bringing that aspect to a higher level. What he said was hilarious, and it made things a lot more fun and interesting for fans on both sides of the fence. Whether with his arm of with his mouth, he's earning his pay.

it was stupid becasue it fuels the fire. They should shut up and take care of business. The dumber line is pedro's.

but ultimately that stuff is eye candy.the game is the thing. and schilling was a flop last night.

I know for sure most yankee fans arent doing anything for human evolution.

it's up to pedro.

Whether it's entertainment or not. You look like an idiot to say something like that and then go out and get shelled. Not to mention there's a factor of heating up the opposing team so that they come out with intent to burry you. Adrenaline can go a long way. This isn't professional wrestling. It does matter if you win or lose.

something i don't understand about SOME yankee fans is that they think.. oh wait, they don't think.

you're right, curt schilling didn't have his stuff. did you watch the game? if you did you would realize that his fastball had no pop. you don't just lose 7 mph on your fastball moron. it was because his right ankle was injured. if you know ANYTHING about pitching you would know that schilling is a fastball pitcher and fastball pitchers rely on their back leg so they can push off and get the "pop" on the fastball. we are not making any excuses, we lost, the yankees OWNED us up to the better part of the 6th inning. but schilling being hurt is a FACT.

you're right, the sox are constantly in second place. the reason is because we are in the division with the HIGHEST paid team in the majors. put us in ANY other division in the MLB and we are more than likely to come out first. i'm not one to bitch about payroll because the sox have a rediculous payroll also, but if you want to bring it up..

FIFTY + million dollars a year is a MASSIVE difference. for 50 mill more the sox could have randy johnson, vladdy and smoltzy easily. i would think that even the most confident yankee fan can agree that with those 3 extra players it would be nearly impossible to beat the sox.

so for 50 million dollars less i think we can all agree that the sox can manage who they sign a little better considering the yankees have only one a handfull more games than they did this season.

Curt's quote I believe was taken out of context. When he said it he was just saying how in this stadium he has the opportunity to shut 55,000 fans up. He didn't say he was going to do it, but that he had the opportunity.

I also don't think that the problem was the ankle last night. I think he just didn't have his best stuff and I fully expect him to come back strong in Game 5.

thank you for your honesty stocker323. Curt didn't have his stuff and he did fuel the fire with his comments about us New Yorkers. All in fun, you gotta love it...

wow, what is so hard to understand. curt didn't have his best stuff because he couldn't push off his back foot. as a fastball pitcher you usually throw heat right down the middle (sometimes). curt couldn't do that AT ALL, therefore he had to rely on hitting the corners. hitting the corners is A LOT harder than throwing a ball right down the middle like he's acustomed to.

don't get me wrong, curt can locate, but without his heater down the middle it makes his job a lot harder. did anyone watch the game? sheesh, he couldn't push off his right foot like he normally does. hence the loss of velocity, as stated over and over again.

if curts ankle doesn't get better he WILL not come back strong game 5, in fact, he won't come back AT ALL.

the docs said (before game 1). it's not something 1-2 games will heal, it'll take months. either he goes and toughs it out and hopefully can pitch with it or he'll get shelled. he got shelled. simple as that. i'm ready for the worst and hoping for the best.

Well i was a pitcher up till twilight baseball and what he says is true about fastball pitchers needing to be able to push off well and have a good base. However, if he was a team player and knew he had this problem, why didn't he say "Hey, don't put me in". If he knows he's not going to have his best stuff, it's time to let someone else pitch and rest it a few more games. No offense but this guy just isn't the brightest bulb in the box. Either that or he's too arrogant to realize he was hurting the team out there. Either way it was a great game and i look forward to game 2.

PS: Leiber is poop so you guys have a real good chance of getting one back tonight...lol
