Im so sick of him. he doesnt know how to utilize pitchers...i can name enough instinces this year..and tonight and last nite are no exception. Pedro was done after 103 pitches, take him out and reward him. he has a 4-3 lead and gave u 7 solid innings, why go out for #8? it makes no sense when he has a lefty in the bullpen to face matsui and then timlin. and i dont care how shaky foulke has been dont try that argument, you pay him to close big games and this is a big game. f*** this guy and tell him to take his previous winning percentage with philly back home with him.

I think some of the blame has to come down on Management. I mean, Theo and the others apparently think with the amount of payroll and tallent, that this team can win regardless of who's managing. They pick inexperienced candidates for manager (Grady) or guys who'll help them sway a free agent to come to Boston (Francona). Who did they interview last year to replace Grady? Glenn Hoffman?? Some bench guy from Seattle?

Anyway, they obviously don't think a quality manager is as important to have as a guy who can protect his players and deal with the Boston media.

Of course, there is some truth to that logic - especially in the regular season. The Sox will have won 190 games over the 2003 and 2004 regular season. But come playoff time - and short series, managing becomes a much bigger aspect of the game.

I just don't get what they are thinking. You can win with a flawed pitching staff, flawed offense or a flawed bullpen if they are managed correctly. But you can have all the pieces in the world and it will do you no good if they are managed poorly.

Francona is a big joke. He is moron and has costus so many games itisnt even funny. Lats night was ridiculous. The announcers couldntven bel;ive it.

The diffreence between Torre and Francona is night and day. Mussina, he takes out before he runs out of gas. Fracnona has to see leads disappear or scores run up so badly we dont have a chance,

sure management is to blame, tthey hjired this little friggin weasal.

He is the worst.

``If I had thought he was losing it, I would have taken him out,'' Francona said last night at Fenway Park

what a dork. He might have been the only person watching that game that didnt know Pedro waas losing it.

How can the players put up withy this incompetence. Hiow mantyn wins has Francona lost for Pedro, for others. The papers are all coparing this tio the Grady move. WWhat about thursday's game and the entire season.

It isnt as though Francona just suddenly amde a mistake--that gives him way to much credit. He is been an absolutely awful manager the entire season.

He is a clown and a moron.

Tony Massarotti in today's Herald:

Francona offered his side of the story when reporters questioned him, but here is the truth: He contradicted himself. With the Red Sox facing the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday, Francona bypassed his preferred relievers because they had been overworked. The idea was to protect them, to give them a day of rest, to get them ready for the Yankees and the stretch run of the 2004 campaign.

And then, when the time came, Francona did not use them. Huh?

m an, I hope your right. I hadnt considered a possible positive spin on this I have just been too pissed off.

Although, this certainly isnt the first time that f***cona has been the last eprson on the planet not to know is pitcher is out of gas. So somehow I dont think this will magically help him grow a brain overnight--mush as I hope your right.

my proverbial fingers are crossed that this dumbass doesnt mess the team up over the next week or so--he's just the type to start resting everyone--get us slaughtered by inferior teams and suck any momentum out of our sails.

Line-up juggling, stupid moves.... I hope not but why should now be different.

Mark my words the stupidity we've seen all season will be magnified now that games mean something and then in the playoffs, when actual managing may be necessary we have Francona, pity the players and fans.

C'mon guys, give the man a break. I know we're all armchair managers to a certain extent, but really. Terry has alot to take to care of, not just during the game, but all day. I, for one, wouldn't take his job. It's high-pressure, especially with the Boston media. How can you criticize someone who has brought the Sox to the playoffs yet again? Sure, he has some flaws, but he is doing an overall good job with a full lineup and excellent pitching.

Hey, he's better than Mr. Little. ;-)

I'm not convinced that he is better than Little.

I didn't really mind Little (except for in game 7 of the ALCS) and thought he did a decent job leading this team (except for one bad decision).

Francona's OK, but he should have learned from Little (and statistics, and games he's managed earlier this season) that Pedro gets tired and ineffective after 100 pitches.

Also, Alan Embree is not a lefty specialist, and shouldn't be used as one.

Mike Myers IS a lefty specialist, and shouldn't be used to get out righties.

He's not the worst manager the Red Sox ever had, but I disagree with a lot of the moves he makes. Yes, It's easy for me (and others) to second guess him.... but Grady got fired for the kind of crap Francona pulls every day.

It will be interesting to see if he's retained if the Red Sox don't win it all.

Absolutely right on about Embree and Myers.

The way Tito threw away the games Thursday and Friday is why many of us are uneasy about him making a decision in the playoffs.
