god forbit that the yankees don't have gold glovers at every position. i'de like to see you go out there and do what kenny loften has done and still can do. he missed ONE ball and you guys make him sound like the worst fielder to ever live.

1 ball??!?!!? I can count 8 balls he's missed off the top of my head. You guys needed a better shortstop, you got one. (i guess) Yankees need a better CF, they ll get one.

Last time I checked, Dave Roberts was on the Red Sox. Please keep discussion where it should be people. Don't make me split threads.

we didn't need a better shortstop, are you kidding me? i'm not a big nomar fan but i admit he was and still is one of the best shortstops in the game when healthy. his defence is good and his offensive capabilities is very good.

the sox got rid of nomar for reasons other than the fact that they (according to you) needed a "better" shortstop.

nomar wasn't going to be resigned at the end of the season anyways. theo took advantage of nomars value and got dave roberts, orlando cabrera and dougie m. that's doing the smart thing. we upgraded our bench with dave roberts, upgraded ss defence while downgrading ss offence and upgraded 1st base defence with the trade.

when healthy are the key 2 words. When not he's behind jeter in range and field percentage.

exactly, i knew you couldn't answer my point. typical of you to make a comparison to jeter.

when giambi has cancer and viruses he's not as good as bellhorn. notice how obvious it is and totally uneccessary to point out, other than to start a flamewar.

^ that is why i call you an idiot.

Got to get back to topic here. Everyday I'm growing more to like Roberts. Last night I felt good the Sox would at least tie it in the 9th when Roberts came in to pinch run. His last two games (Friday and Tuesday) he has scored the tying run in the 9th. I think he needs more playing time.

i think roberts is going to be so valuable in the postseason...u can play nixon for 7 innings and take him out for a pinch runner and have him steal a base and have the ability to score on a single or be on first and score on a double...adds such another dimension. he should steal every time hes on basically.

I agree. Roberts has been awesome for this team. He gives this team a dynamic that it didn't have last year, and I can't remember the last time it did have: Speed.

Roberts, Reese, Cabrera, are all fast guys added this season. We lost Damien Jackson, but certainly have gained in that area.

I like the idea of starting Trot (assuming he's healthy) and possibly removing him for a pinch runner if necessary. Trot's been clutch for the Sox, and it'll be exciting to see him get some more ABs and hopefully he's at full swing come late October (assuming the Sox make the playoffs)

What's Nixon's batting average against lefties? Is it really that bad? I think Papa Jack, can help out tremdously with Nixon, don't know why they haven't tried.

As far as Roberts is concered, I'd love to see him in there to pinch run, and start some games. We win a lot of games when he's in there. I think 12-1 when he starts.

As for Reese, let's not go there, I think he sucks, no matter great he is a defense.

Trot is batting .091 (1-11) this year against lefties. I couldn't find the career numbers but I know they're not really good. I think I read somewhere that they do work with Trot on working against lefties, but it is just really hard for him to hit lefties. I think Roberts or Kapler would be a better option against lefties than Nixon so that would be a good way to play them.

i think kapler is ur playoff starter in right field.

Can you spell out your, and capatilize your words, it's hard to read it.

i think trot should talk to eric chavez this offseason about hitting lefties. Chavez used to have the worst #s vs lefties possible...he was like hitting just over .100...hes turned it around and they have him hitting over .300 vs lefties. trot is so dangerous vs righties...if he could bat a very respectable .260 vs lefties he will be a .320 hitter...and hes already a .290-.300 hitter to begin with.

But who where do you play him?

I know Trot is starting to swing the bat well but I think Roberts needs some games in right. Watching him steal second on Lopez last night shows the added dimension he brings to the club. Given the chance to get three of four at bats he can create runs.

Robets is good for late inning PR and defensive replacements when we need it but you have to start Trot against rightys and Kapler against leftys so that really leaves no job for Roberts outside of late inning PR.

where would you put in roberts for defensive purposes? mueller is fine at 3rd, we have gg's at ss, 2nd and 1st, he obviously doesn't catch and he has a weak arm.

the only purpose for roberts to come in during late games is for his base running abilities.
