It's been reported that the Big Unit might be staying in AZ, which would be great. But even if that's false I don't think the Sox will end up with Randy in their uni. So I say we turn our attention to Pittsburgh and their pitcher Kris Benson. We could probably get him for only a few prospects and maybe even cash. He could hold down the bottom of our rotation. Meanwhile, we could put either Arroyo or Wake in the 'pen for long or middle relief. Then in the future we could have a solid top three pitcher allowing us to dump Lowe and still have a solid top three. What do you all think?

I'm a fan of his wife, though.

His wife is hot.

I would trade for him, just so his wife would come to games.

noony,

I don't think the Sox have even LOOKED at Benson. They're still thinking about the whole Suppan thing, how he came over and really sucked in Boston. Honestly I don't think Benson is going to make a big impact. He's a #3 or #4 starter on a contending team....

Also, I think the Sox would have to give up more than he's worth to get him. Keep in mind the Mets, Twins, and maybe a few others (Angels?) will be gunning for a pitcher, and Benson seems to be the only one readily available.

I say no, don't Bend for Benson. I don't think he's better than what we already have

As Theo has repeated for the last week, this is a seller's market. Consequentially, teams with players on the market will be demanding MLB-ready players and/or prospects. Such is the case with the Pirates and Benson. Pittsburgh turned down Mientkiewicz (sp) and prospects from the twins and are truly running the Mets through the wringer, demanding Ty Wigginton (who is having a decent season) and high level prospects.

From the Red Sox' perspective, we don't need Benson. As stated earlier in this thread, he's a #3 or #4 pitcher, tops. As such, we have neither the talent demanded from Pittsburgh nor the demand for a #3 or #4 pitcher (who will be a free agent at the end of the season, if I'm not mistaken). Boston would be trading away solid position players for a 2 1/2 month rental (i.e. Jeff Suppan last year).

Bottom line: not a good deal for either team.

And yes, his wife is dope....can anyone say trophy wife??
