Well, Trots out with a "grade 2 tear" of his quad. The two weeks seems quite unrealistic considering he's said it hurts more now than it has at any point this year.

There's still talk of bringing on Kent, and the focus of trade debate has shifted, it seems, from another pitcher or 1st baseman to a replacement right fielder.

I know we have an extra guy in the pen to help out with the bullpen being gassed (I think it's Malaska), but when the bullpen gets back on it's feet and Malaska (or Mendoza, or whoever) gets sent back down I think the Sox should consider this:

Bring up Daubach. Everyone seems to think he and Nixon are very close offensively. Dauber can play 1b, left and right reasonably well. It would allow the focus of trade talks to go back to pitching - which I think is more important than another bat.

Plus, Daubach's doing pretty good in Pawtucket. .296, 12hr, 51rbi, .427obp, .566slg. He should be up pretty soon considering all the suspensions coming down this week.

I say if he plays ok, the search for a Nixon replacement should be the least of the trade rumors. Anybody feel the same way?

I've always really liked Daubach, he plays the game hard, has decent skills, and never causes any trouble. I think the only issue with calling up Daubach may be his limited defensve ability. He's an OK first baseman from what I remember, but honestly is he any better than Millar in the outfield?

I like the idea of bringing Daubach up, because as I stated, I do really appreciate the way he plays the game.

That being said, I'd like to see Gabe Kapler get more playing time with Nixon out. He plays very good defense, seems to be heating up with the bat, and plays with the intensity that this team has lacked.

This team will miss Nixon, no doubt.

I think that the Sox called up Andy Dominique because he can catch, and they know we're gunna lose Varitek for at least a few cames because of the fight, and we need a backup carcher.

hey els, liked your post about the yankmees, as well.

yeah gabe is hot these days...Dauby would help in the clubhouse right about now too. he's a dirt dog, if there ever was one.

"Name one team OTHER than the Yankees who can take on a useless player who makes $7 mil just so they can make a deal?

Money IS power."

that one.

RSR...

Not so sure they'll bring in Kent. I can't see them bringing in someone who is aging and has declining defensive skills for the kind of money he's making. Any idea who we'd give up for him? I think a more realistic and beneficial move would be to bring in Beltran...we'll know for sure in a few days.

I can't see why they wouldn't bring up Daubach...he's been tearing it up in Pawtucket, as your stats indicate. Can you believe they brought up ANDY DOMINIQUE in place of Nixon? Why bother? Daubach is a proven commodity...and he's bound to add to this team's burgeoning chemistry.

Crespo,

I'm sure Zenny will respond to your Shoppach question, but I'll take a crack at it first:

Shoppach needs playing time. He's currently struggling a bit in AAA, and they see him as a big part of the future. If he's struggling in AAA, moving him up to the bigs probably won't cure that, and probably won't be good for his development.

I don't believe Beltran will be traded at all. Seems like Houston still thinks they're in it.

I don't like the idea of Jeff Kent. The Sox already have enough players who can smash the ball, but can't run, bunt, or play defense. Just say no to Jeff Kent.

You are 100% correct. Shopp needs more time.

The reason Daubach hasn't been called up since joining the PawSox this season is the same reason why his major league career is basically over...he doesn't produce in clutch situations EVER. Daubach gets hits with no one on, strikes out with runners in scoring position, and isn't really a benifit defensively. Some nights he has it, most nights he doesn't. I don't see Daubach coming up again this season unless this team falls way out of it and has a yard sale.

Wait, so Andy Dominique over Brain Daubach??? I've never liked Daubach much myself, but given a choice between the two, I'd take Dauber in a second.

Both players will be necessary when Ortiz, Varitek, etc. (?) go on their suspensions.

With Tek's hand hurting, they wanted a third catcher just in case.

How is Dominque's defensive skills? I would assume he isn't that good.

I'm hearing that Nixon might be shut down for the season. Would anyone want Larry Walker as a replacement? If he didn't cost 12 million I would this trade, but I'd rather resign Pedro, and our FA's instead.
