No, I'd rather see him get at least 100 IP at AAA before calling him up, but I don't think we have that luxury of time. We could conceiveably see him at Yankee stadium next week. Though, that's unlikely seeing that the Yankees are 11-2 against left-handed pitchers.

I'd rather see him pitch in our rotation, come August 1st. That way he could get twelve more starts at AAA, and probably 60 more innings.

Per WEEI and Theo, Lester will not be pitching in the Bronx. I wouldn't be shocked to see Pauley again against the MFY. Theo did say however that Lester is in "a finishing school period and would be able to help soon".

Lester's start has been pushed back to Monday I believe for the Pawsox which will allign him for one of the DH games against Texas.

Lester was interviewed on WEEI today and this was discussed. Judging by the what he said I think he will pitch in one of those doubleheader games on Saturday 6/10.

I think its pretty much a given considering they moved him around in the pawsox rotation to lineup him up to start for saturday in boston against the rangers.

Lester's final line tonight in Indianapolis

4inn 4H 0ER 5BB 3K's

5 BB --- that spells big trouble at the ML level. Between Lester and Pauley we can expect 2 more blow out losses berfore the end of the week. The FO had better get serious about getting some experienced professional pitchers.

43 K's and 25 BB on the season.

His K/BB ratio is 1.72 which isnt bad, but if he walks alot this weekend, and MLB team will hurt him.

He is 22, no need to rush him just because he has been a prospect for 'too long' We'll see him in the majors probably this saturday though. Should be fun.

So uh, 700, what do you have to say about pauley after tonight?
I liked what I saw from the kid. I was in my seat until the lst out despite the odious nauseating atmosphere of the big toilet in the Bronx. I figured that the Evil Empire would prevail in the end especially since today is 06-06-06-- take away the zeros and you've got the devil's combination.

Although I was impressed with the kid, we can't afford to run him out there every fifth Day yet. he's still too inexperienced. With the bad news about Wells the Sox desperately need to get bona fide major league pitcher.

i agree he needs more time in AAA , he did do a good job tonight however he is allowing to many baserunners ,his WHIP is 2.18 so far in 2 games

Thats mostly just because of his first game which you can throw out. He improved dramatically his 2nd time around and I think thats more what you can expect from Pauley. He threw strikes and showed much better command of his curve. That being said he could certainly benefit from more time in the minors.

He showed poise and ability, but his ability is not overwhelming enough to overcome his lack of experience. The Sox can't afford to let this kid take the hill every fifth date.

after last night he has earned another start or 2. if he pitches like he did last night and thats a big if then they can afford to put him on the hill every 5th day.

Even if he puts up numbers close to the league average that'd be good enough.

I'd take a 4.5 ERA from him.

I agree that Pauley has earned the right to play more games. However, you get the feeling the front office is giving all these kids a shot at the big leagues to get there feet wet. So far we have had Alvarez, Delcarmen, Van Buren, and Pauley make a stab in the majors this season. Craig Hansen was just called up and Jon Lester will get a chance to start.

As the season progresses the Red Sox will probably make a choice of who should stay with the team. David Pauley has made a name for himself and I think is under great consideration to contribute again this year.

Only if Sox could just release or place Clement on waivers, then Lester & Pauley can both stay up here

If Lester shows anything like he has in the minors, then he would be the overwhelming choice over Pauley to take the vacant rotation spot

and if the Queen had balls she would be the King.

I don't know what your problem is with minor leaguers, but it seems that you just don't like guys who are 'inexperienced' Talent has to come from somewhere, and Pauley has shown he has the pitches to get good major leaguers out, Giambi and A-rod were a combined 0-6 against him.

The Red Sox can't afford to trade young pitching right now, because nothing is getting moved for cheap or even fair. Scott Kazmir just 2 years ago got traded for Victor Zambrano. That is like trading Jon Lester for Vincente Padilla. It makes no sense at all. That is what pitching prospects are getting moved for and I think even you can grasp that Lester is at least worth more than that.

Sure, we could sell the farm and get Zito, but why? Does half a season of Barry Zito really excite anyone? I would take a guarenteed 6 years of Jon Lester over a half season of Barry Zito any day. Lester is at least worth a shot. If he isn't ready quite yet, Pauley will give us at least league average numbers this year while Lester fine tunes. That leaves only Clement as a problem in the rotation and believe it or not i think he will figure himself out at least a little bit. This is not a bad team at all. We aren't in dire circumstances. We have a good rotation a good enough pen, and a good offense to go with the best defense in the american league. We haven't yet clicked all of these things together, but we will. Our rotation hasn't been so great the past couple times through, the pen is a little thin with Timlin having the tired arm and Foulke the bad back, but Hansen is up and those guys are coming back. We have been under achieving and still are only .5 games back on the Yankees. We could surge and change that.

We can afford to give Lester a shot. Don't be surprised if you once again have to put your foot in your mouth, 700. He might struggle, but who knows, he might light the rangers up. Lester has adjusted to every level he has been moved up to. He is no longer struggling in AAA. If you haven't checked it recently take a guess what his ERA is, 700. Ready? 2.70 including all of his balooned numbers from the get-go.

The Rangers are not a good match for Lester as they light up lefties. Lester will have problems if he continues his tendency to walk batters. I hope he does well and proves me wrong. I don't see him playing a major role this year. Maybe if he puts up a good showing, the Marlins will pull the trigger on a Willis for Lester + deal.

If Lester is succesful and continues to be successful the sox are going to trade a pitching making peanuts for someone who is going to get a boatload of money in arbitration when he clearly will not be worth it.
