Does anyone have an idea how many batters lester has walked this season? Then how about his last 8 or so starts? Scouts say Lester has very good control.

25 walks in 46 2/3 innings with alot of those coming in his first few starts

Thanks. Ok, so I guess that wouldn't qualify as a control problem. Granted I wouldn't be surprised if he was over throwing tomorrow out of nerves from his first time in the bigs.

I'm thinking that the Lester move now suggests that the Sox FO don't think Wells will be returning anytime soon, if at all. They want to give Lester a number of start opportunities before the trade deadline 7/31. If he performs well enough then the idea of a trade to acquire a starter would probably be nixed. If he doesn't perform then there's still enough time to go out and seal a deal for more pitching by the deadline. I'm not in any way suggesting that HE would be traded, but giving Lester some starts before the end of July, allows a little more wiggle room for Sox management to make an overall long-term decision about who (if anybody) they might go after trade wise

The Rangers are not a good match for Lester as they light up lefties. Lester will have problems if he continues his tendency to walk batters. I hope he does well and proves me wrong. I don't see him playing a major role this year. Maybe if he puts up a good showing, the Marlins will pull the trigger on a Willis for Lester + deal.

What's your fascination with Willis? I really don't think he'd be a good fit in the American League at all.

I would never trade Lester for Willis, ever, Dontrelle is overrated, Lester is 22, with minor leauge credetials, and not to mention he has a big arm.

Dontrelle is 24, with major league credentials, not to mention he has a big arm, and should have won a Cy Young this year.

If the Marlins offered Willis for Lester straight up, I'd drive Lester to Logan Airport myself.

He's 24 years old, and he has 47 major league wins with a .630 winning percentage. He's a stud. Lester is at best a work in progress.

Problem is they won't so why even discuss it.

Dontrelle in the American League would be awful. If guys like Oswalt, Peavy, or Santana for some unknown ridiculous reason became available, I would pull the trigger on a Lester Pedroia + deal, but would they do that? Probably not. I'm really not in favor of trading young pitching since it is the most sought after commodity in all of baseball and it comes rarely in the form of a lefty. We have it, we should hold on to it.

WIllis is young pitching, and he is a #1 major league starter with star credentials. He'll cost more than Lester, but if Lester shows alot of promise, maybe the Marlins would settle for Lester and only one other prospect like Pedroia.

gotta figure what the Sox gave up for Beckett-- Sanchez, Ramirez, and 2 top single A prospects

Now Willis last season just finished top 3 of the voting last year in the Cy Young category, the Marlins are going to be asking for way more than a straight up trade

As I said earlier the Marlins pretty much want 3 ready made prospects in a catcher, centerfielder, and another top prospect. sox don't have the catcher to make it happen and I don't believe the Red Sox are going to move their best position prospect Jacoby Ellsbury who is tearing up the Carolina league in a deal.

If Lester shows a lot of promise the Red Sox will keep him. Dontrelle does not make a good fit in the AL, I don't get your obsession with him.

How can you come to such a conclusion about Willis-- that he can't pitch in the AL? On what data are you basing this conclusion? My obsession with him is that he is the best and yuoungest available pitcher playing for a team that seems hell-bent on unloading him. You would rather the Yankees land the guy?

The Yankees have no chance at landing him unless they part with Hughes, Duncan and others in a deal. I get the sense they are holding onto Hughes because he is that good of a prospect.

The Yankees have ways of sneaking $ into deal, so never say never when it comes to those pinstripe bastards.

Florida's payroll is ~$15M. They aren't hurting for $$. Usually $$ is included when a big market club is dumping a high $$ underperformer. The Yankees have plenty of those, but I doubt any of them appeal to the Marlins. Cano and Wang are the only 2 MLB ready guys that Florida would want. Hughes and Tabata are their two best high-ceiling prospects (Duncan is off the radar since he's stinking up the joint in AAA -- .209/.279/.255, no homers). I don't think Hughes and Tabata would be enough, and losing either of Cano or Wang weakens the current team. They can't get Willis without hurting their chances this year.
