He overcame Cora's treatment one time, I believe he will make another comeback from Cora's idiocy again. As soon as Duran gets comfortable being the fastest guy in the outfield playing in LF at Fenway his errors will lessen, and his hitting will return to normal. Fire the buffoon manager and several players will improve immediately and some will drop off. Those that will improve are the ones that have been treated like crap by Cora. They include Duran, Rafaela, Campbell, Houck, Crawford, Buehler, Hendriks and Casas. Those that will show drop-offs because the next manager won't pamper them are - Abreu, Hamilton, Wong, Bello, Whitlock, Newcomb, Bernadino and Winckowski. Dig deep and I think you will find a theme in those names that has existed since the cheater arrived in Boston in 2018. There is a very simple solution here and it doesn't involve Duran in any way!!

Then why was 2024 an all-star year? Did he suddenly take instruction well and then forget how to take instruction? Or maybe, he has issues with playing LF where he has failed on defense compared to CF and his defensive issues have carried over into his hitting. He's made TWO errors in 550 chances in CF. That's his normal and comfortable position. Cora keeps putting round pegs in square holes because he has no idea what he is doing. Fire Cora and I guarantee Duran will significantly improve, just like Sale did when he got away from Cora.

Next, Campbell your victim of hate talk, was Minor League Player of the Year like Mike Trout and many other superstars not just good MLB players so it shows he has the potential for being great and for a month he displayed that potential until teams adjusted to him. It's a familiar story among great players. As soon as they learn to adjust, the have a break-out year. If you weren't blinded by hate, you would realize he's on a very familiar path to greatness. In the meantime, neither Mayer nor Anthony has enjoyed similar success. That doesn't mean they won't end up being great too. It's very clear Cora is doing everything possible to establish Anthony as the franchise player despite his lack of success, but he's now dropped Mayer like he did Campbell in the batting order and it appears he'll be the next to be sent down but at least he hit a few home runs before Cora pulls the plug on another future star of the team. We've seen this Cora story since 2022. He plays his favorites and pretends he has a shot at the playoffs, but his batting orders and weak AAA players that he promotes to the MLB always come back to bite him. As of today, our big three have averages of; Anthony .114 in 14 games, Mayer .216 in 26 games and .223 in 67 games. FYI at 26 games Campbell was hitting .290 and at 14 games Campbell was hitting .333 once again proving the point that Campbell has had more success so far than Mayer and Anthony. I believe all three will eventually become great players but not if they keep getting sent down to AAA instead of transitioning their game in the majors like Devers did. He sucked in 2018 but played the whole year despite hitting .240 and making a billion errors. Campbell should be doing the same and learning his new position - 2B. Mayer should be learning MLB level SS right now as well. Story is just an expensive back-up who should be filling in for Bregman and Toro should be going head-to-head with Gonzalez for the 1B position since no trades seem imminent. That's not how Cora will play it though. His favorites are his favorites and will get plenty of playing time because at heart he is a bench guy and prefers to lose a game each series with his scrubs than putting his best players forward and building his team of the future. Four years in a row all with the same results, a .500ish team with no focus on the future. It's time to move on and get a real manager.

Again, with the wrongful criticism of Campbell. Why do you hate the guy? You are supposed to be a Red Sox fan but nothing you write suggests it. Because it's OAK and they exist because of prospects, I thought Casas who is a step down but I think will be an above average 1B is a strong start in the trade offer and then you go to depth. You add 3 or 4 prospects that will upgrade OAK farm system and provide depth. They have a great young SS so the package needs to focus on young pitching and young outfielders.

Great GMs don't settle if they want to win. Hoskins isn't any better than Casas but he is more expensive. The reason you reach for stars in trades is to improve the level of talent on your roster. When was the last time LAD said let's not go for Ohtani, Freeman or a Mookie Betts so we can try to get a mediocre player because it's more likely to happen? You have to think big if you want to be highly competitive. That's how DD got Price, Sale and JD. No guts no glory. I can keep quoting cliches but I think you get the drift of this response. There are a lot of fans on this site who don't seem to understand the difference between bad GMs and great GMs. The great GMs take risks to get great rewards. We need Breslow to seek a Maserati not a Pinto. Kurtz will be expensive and should be. That's why we would want him so badly and why we would sacrifice many prospects to help a team that lives off of prospects since they can't afford stars. Back up the truck and solve a problem for a decade at 1B. Casas is an above average player and Kurtz looks to be a step up or two from him in the long run so look in the prospect list and find guys who won't make the Red Sox roster but would definitely make the OAK roster and lump them together with Casas and upgrade the talent level of the Red Sox. It's just that simple and worst case, they say no and it's no harm no foul and we move on to another high value target. Go bold or go home!!!

I still say give OAK anything they want for Kurtz. Big, powerful HR hitting stud 1B. Back up the truck with Prospects and Casas and make OAK a deal they can't refuse. Think about this. Narvaez at C Kurtz at 1B Campbell at 2B Mayer at SS Bregman at 3B Rafaela in RF/CF Duran in CF/LF Anthony in LF/RF Abreu/Refsnyder at DH/4th OF That leaves us with a need for an upgrade at back-up catcher Toro or Gonzalez as back-up corner infielder Story as back-up middle infielder 13 EXCELLENT offensive players who are going to be strong defenders as well. It allows Breslow to work out the issues with the pitching staff as his only to do for 2026. I really like the offense listed above and the control years will keep them in Boston a long time if Bregman can get a couple year extension.

Campbell played at a state championship HS in Georgia and won the SS position then competed nationally for the SS position on an elite Perfect Game team beatthing out players from around the US and many Latin American countries. This week will tell us whether the pitching can offset the lack of hitting. Buehler needs to improve dramatically and without Dobbins we have Crochet and Giolito and maybe Bello although I'm not convinced, he's as good as his numbers. The bad batting order will continue to hurt the chances of winning and hopefully seal Cora's fate. The time limit on Anthony and Mayer could be running out as neither has come close to the "good part" of Campbell season, so the bad days are approaching Campbell's rejection level when he got dumped to AAA. The team has nobody hitting .300 with over 100 at bats so our best hitters are part time players who have been replacements for hurt players. The young stars aren't adapting. Duran and Rafaela have improved their hitting, and Abreu hasn't hit since April. So basically, we have Narvaez hitting well as our starting catcher, Gonzalez and Refsnyder hitting well as a replacement and a platoon with Abreu and Toro a replacement for Casas. Everyone else is hitting below .250. I think things are going to get much worse before they get better when Bregman returns. The pitching has been excellent for the most part but needs to improve for the team to win, even against LAA!! Four of our next five series are winnable so cross your fingers because things get much harder after that.

Hamilton Major Leagues SS - 10 Errors in 270 chances fielding % of .963 with league average of .973 2B - 7 Errors in 273 chances fielding % of .974 with league average of .983 (9 points below LgAvg) Campbell Major Leagues SS - Campbell not allowed to play his primary position 2B - 7 Errors in 222 chances fielding % of .968 with league average of .982 (14 points below LgAvg) CF - 0 Errors in 10 chances fielding % of 1.000 with league average of .989 LF - 0 Errors in 3 chances fielding % of 1.000 with league average of .983 Campbell hasn't played 2B for 3 seasons like Hamilton, so his sample size is very small, but you obviously go to great lengths to try to prove points. Most people consider this too small but let's not because despite it being small it's fairly comparable to Hamilton's which negates any added benefit from Hamilton's defense especially when you consider he's play SS more and he's a butcher at SS. Count the games at SS and its Advantage Campbell!!! Also, if Campbell gets 53 more chances without an error, they would be identical and both would be below league average. The big difference is Hamilton is better at 2B than SS and Campbell grew up as a SS not a 2B. Wait, we need to add stolen bases!!! That surely should make up the enormous difference in their hitting!! Will Hamilton be allowed to steal first base in the future? Since he's batting .180 with an OBP of .212 he only gets a chance to steal roughly 21 percent of his Plate Appearances. BUT if he's on the roster as a pinch runner which is what he is most suited for then he could be on base EVERY game or close to it, stealing once a game!! Most people don't bother to suggest the impact of SBs on guys who can't hit .200, you must be really desperate. So, in summary, GREAT POINT about the defense and stolen bases. That really sways the argument the other way!!! hahaha Since you always expect a Cora shot in my comments, here it is: Look at Hamilton's performance at SS in both the minors and majors. He stunk, badly. Do you know how many games Cora has played him at SS? 84 compared to his 78 at 2B where he is far better. Great manager? I think NOT. FYI - Hamilton Minor League Defensive Stats SS - 37 Errors in 871 chances fielding% of .958 (About the same as Mayer, well below league average) 2B - 8 Errors in 369 chances fielding % of .978 (A bit below league average and clearly his better position)

Is it Hamilton's mediocre performance in nearly 1500 minor league at bats that impresses you so much or is it his May of 2024 performance that does? Isn't it weird how different the picture is if you look at the whole picture and not cherry pick the data that supports your point only?

Facts don't support what you say and the spinning is being done by you. He had great success in his first 29 games. His current performance is not distinguishably different from Mayer and Anthony in the limited times they have been in the MLB. Unfortunately, they haven't had his short-lived success but at least he had it and got the satisfaction to know that he has the skills and just needs to make the adjustments needed to be great going forward. I bet you would have complained when Williams went 2 for 9 to start the season or when he only hit .257 in 25 games in May of 1939 when he was 20!! The big three may not rise quite as quickly as Ted Williams but they are mimicking the start of YAZ, and most star Boston players in their first year. Was YAZ sent down in June of 1961 for batting .213, 10 full points below Campbell? That means YAZ sucked too based on your assessment of Campbell. How lame is that? Yaz and Cambell suck? He's factually shown more over the body of his work this season than both Mayer and Anthony. That doesn't make any of the big three worthy of being demoted at this point in time. The team should be doing whatever it takes to work with all of the young players to shorten their learning curve on adjusting as a teams get a book built on them. Campbell isn't a lesser player than the other two because he proved he was better last year, and he's had more success this year. They are all young and in the process of learning how to be MLB players. Anthony and Mayer simply started later. Their minor league track record significantly separates them from Hamilton in everybody's eyes except Cora. Hamilton should have been sent down not Campbell. Instead, the coaching staff should be banding together to create an accelerated program to help the big 3 accomplish an abridged version of learning how to adjust to MLB pitching. Nobody should be focusing on trying to win right now by using scrubs. This should be about the future and the sooner the top prospects are all looking like top prospects in the MLB the better this franchise will be going forward. Which is better? This make-shift crap team Cora is using winning enough games to finish several games short of the playoffs in 2025 or the future team struggling and working extensively at the MLB level with the coaching staff to shorten the learning curve and move this roster toward big success in 2026? My vote is clearly on focusing on the future and letting the pipe dream go. They aren't good enough to make the playoffs this year, even when Bregman comes back. If Breslow can get Cora to dump the pretenders he's using by making deals to get all-star level talent, then going after the playoffs makes sense. Otherwise, the future makes the most sense.

FYI... BA/OPS? seriously? You do realize OPS double accounts BA so naturally a higher BA during a time period will produce a higher OPS and exaggerate the difference!! Every at bat that goes to Hamilton, Eaton or any other career minor leaguer rather than Campbell is a wasted at bat for the future. This is the chance to work with the young players and help them with adjustments not play crap players like Hamilton. He belongs in AA playing with Jeter Downs.

You have a topflight prospect that is struggling so you want him to lose at bats to a crap player who should be in AA or maybe AAA since he can steal? That makes sense to you? How does that help the future of the team? There are guys who will be MLB players, maybe even MLB stars or superstars and there are players who are career minor league players. Campbell is the MLB skilled player and Hamilton is the career MILB player like Cora, Kiki Hernandez and Jeter Downs. Sure, some players have connections like the Coras, Kiki and other buddies of the Cora family and their connections but that doesn't mean they should take playing time from legitimate MLB players. That's just wrong. Favoritism vs skills-based playing time is a huge issue in Boston and has been for years. Henry got his rep as a racist from it. Cora's prejudice is towards Latins. A merit system has never existed in Boston and probably never will. So if you want to evaluate Campbell on a minute subset of his at bats after he completely out-performed the predestined stars and of course the minor league friends of Cora that's fine. Heck of way to root for a team to win.

Raleigh was a first pick for his power and HRS to replace Devers', the fact that we are temporarily OK at catcher was also a factor. We said we were OK at catcher in 2024 with Wong and we were WONG!!! I'd love to see Narvaez work out as an all-star catcher going forward but I know Raleigh will be. The future Red Sox need depth in the category of all-stars like the old days. None of that disagrees with your assessment that we need pitching, but we still need to replace Devers' power too.

Daniel, BRAVO!!! That was the best summary of the state of the roster that I have seen. You are spot on with evaluations of everyone not just the high-profile Mayer and Anthony. You fully appreciate Rafaela and I'm guessing you probably would understand why I believe he should be in RF with Duran in CF (2 errors 550 TC) and Anthony should be in LF like Yaz and Williams. I was curious to see if you were going to inflate Abreu's value like most people, but you didn't. You fully understand his many, many limitations and his one big strength. Excellent!! Your viewpoint is so refreshing because you read the stats as well as watch the players, so historical performance takes precedence over "watching the player" and the silly metrics or what-ifs that seem to dominate discussions on this website. I believe people should read this article over and over to better understand the roster because there are so many wrong impressions of the capabilities of the players. You nailed it. Great job!!

If you didn't notice Cora playing Hamilton for Campbell that's ok. It happened and that left the top prospect watching games at the MLB level and not playing them. If he had just sat one game, it's resting the player. Cora sat him multiple games which is called wasting him so Hamilton gets reps. This gives Breslow the chance to explain he sent him down because Cora refused to play him and wanted Hamilton to get his reps. That's negligence on Cora's part and is the politically correct way to document why Cora needs to go and Breslow needs to bring his own manager to the team.

There is always one more choice. What percentage of the top 20 prospects in the Red Sox organization will make it to the MLB in your opinion? My guess is 30 to 50% at most. That means 50 to 70% of them won't so those players get thrown in the deals rather than buying down the Yoshida money. Casas is a talented player and will start for somebody in the future. Kurtz to me has a higher upside so a decent prospect plus Casas should get a deal done since it's Oakland and they like the prospects in deals to stock their future. Yoshida is a DH with limited defensive skills. A team like Colorado is using Tyler Freeman at DH. Giving them Yoshida and 3 or even 4 of the farm system guys in the unlikely to make the MLB category for Hunter Goodman would be a great trade for both teams. Colorado needs to build for the future and Goodman is second to Raleigh in my opinion at catcher. We need the upgrade at Catcher because Wong was never 1/2 the solution at catcher. Narvaez and Goodman would be a great combo, and Goodman has backed up at 1B for Colorado. He's a power hitter and helps close the gap with Devers gone with respect to HR power. I think Yoshida and at least 3 non-top end prospects to a team rebuilding is the way to reduce salary while adding value.

If betting 3rd when you have the worst average on the team isn't favoritism, give me a word that fits better!!! Your last comment needs to be a gentleman's bet. You stated correctly they should be sent down too and I see no way that will happen based on Cora's history. Remember, Cora was the guy sitting Campbell when his average was higher than both Mayer and Anthony the days before he got sent down. That's on Cora. Breslow deciding that if you won't play him then I'm sending him down to train is the right move by Breslow but that's all on the dbag Cora. I hope you are right they will send them down but with Hamilton up batting nearly as badly as Anthony, the prejudice is extremely apparent.

Trades are needed but not rentals. Long term on offense the following players are supposed to be the future: C - Narvaez, 1B-Casas, 2B-Campbell, SS-Mayer, 3B-Bregman, LF- Anthony, CF - Duran, RF- Rafaela and DH- Abreu with Wong, Story, Toro and Refsnyder the reserves. This offense is lacking power with Devers gone. The team has a $18 Million dollar wasted player who is not as good as Abreu/Refsnyder at DH. So, the goal needs to be to deal Yoshida and pick which starter above is not a potential all-star at their position. Duran has been one. Rafaela may be the best defender and if moved to RF he will win GG for the next decade. Anthony has the star next to his name as an expected all-star. Abreu/Refsnyder are very serviceable players but nothing special. Narvaez COULD be an all-star or he may simply be experiencing a career year like Wong last year. Bregman is an all-star. Mayer also has a star next to his name as an expected all-star and Campbell the Minor League Player of the Year has earned a star next to his name. Casas, is an enigma, but does have excellent upside potential. So where is an upgrade needed for immediate talent growth for the roster? I think Cal Raleigh stands out as a trade worthy opponent simply because he replaces Devers power and is an all-star catcher. Having two studs or trading Narvaez to get Raleigh are both acceptable ideas. The deal needs to include Yoshida and any prospects not listed as starters above other than Abreu and Refsnyder as potential candidates for the trade including any of the players we received in the Devers deal. Additionally, I personally feel Kurtz from OAK has a far higher ceiling than Casas so trading Casas and prospects to get him makes a lot of sense. That would leave a 2026 starting defense that would be Division Championship worthy and an offense that should be at the top of the heat within two years.
