  1. Watching the games is not much fun these days. We have poor relievers. I can live with average starters, but poor relievers will lose a ton of games. It was obvious last year too. How come we do not have over 100 MPH arms in the bullpen? All other teams have them.
  2. We lost more than seven games due to poor defense.
  3. I will say it again. The Red Sox need a top of the line bullpen. They can still win with average No.3 starters because they have plenty of hitting. I do not see the hitting going away anytime soon. Every time the bullpen does a decent job we win. We need stellar defense in SS and 2b. Raphie and Casas have to be tolerated in 1b and 3b.
  4. Trade Casas???? Do you remember what we got in return for Rizzo?
  5. Outside the Red Sox I only like the traditional teams such as the Cardinals, Dodgers, Braves, Giants, Phillies, ect. I used to love the As during the Rollie Fingers era. The only exception is the Yankees, they are highly unlikeable.
  6. I lived in Massachusetts during the Yaz era and fell in love with the team I have been in Maryland for years and never bonded with the Orioles. I live outside DC and tried to like the Nationals but that did not work. With MLB streaming is quite easy to be a fan from a distance. My daughter lives in Massachusetts and we always try to go to a game at Fenway when we visit. I was at Orioles Park last weekend and the number of Red Sox fans in the stands was down compared to other years. IN 2018 when the Orioles were in the toilet sometimes Red Sox fans would outnumber the locals.
  7. Years ago when Verlander was with the Tigers I went to a ball game at Fenway. Verlander was shagging baseballs in centerfield. I called his name and waved. He looked up and threw a souvenir ball in our direction. I like him as a competitor, but I hope the Sox destroy him this afternoon.
  8. The Red Sox have a history of hurting Verlander.
  9. Every time the bullpen does the job we win. I think a strong bullpen may be more important than an average group of starting pitchers.
  10. At the onset of the season the Red Sox lost many games due to poor defense. Now they are losing due to a poor bullpen. The starting pitching got worse, but we continue to lose when the starting pitchers have a good outing. Hitting is not a problem. This team simply needs a front office that spends money on a quality bullpen. That is less costly than looking for starters. The defense has gotten much better and will continue to improve as Story comes back. There will be a surplus of hitters coming up from triple A in the next couple of years. Is it possible to know how many games were lost due to errors and how many lost in the last two innings due to a poor bullpen? BTW, last night Cora should have taken Sims out after facing the minimum three batters.
  11. I was at the game yesterday. Casas threw a souvenir ball at us after the 3rd out.
  12. I will try to get an autograph from Casas during BP. The Red Sox DFA Dom Smith, per @ByRobertMurray.
  13. I will be at the game tonight! Oriole park is nice. Oriole fans tend to be quite friendly.
  14. Once the score was 9 to 5 I would not have used Jansen. But, that is me watching the game on TV.
  15. A question for the forum regarding the awful loss to Texas last night: Jansen pitched in August 12, 13 and hence was not available last night when the Sox gave the game away. Why was Jensen used the day before to preserve a 9 to 5 victory? We needed Jansen last night.
  16. I read on X (Twitter) that the Duran jersey is selling like crazy. Is that a rumor?
  17. The old Red Sox team is back.
  18. Houck 101 pitches still there
  19. It seems the NESN announcer is confused.
  20. Did Yoshida crossed the plate ahead of the DP?
  21. I have to agree. As Duran said the slur he was probably reacting without thinking. It does not mean he is a bad person or a homophobe. BTW, LBJ was the most pro black president since Lincoln, nevertheless in private he used the N word regularly. The old days were different. JFK had concubines and the press looked the other way. Had a ball player said the F word in the 1960s it would have been 100% ignored by the media. Duran made a mistake and he will pay. End of story. At least he can continue to be a ballplayer.
  22. OK, great answer! I suspected the batters don't try very hard, but I have seen some that do.
  23. Why is it so hard to understand that some ball players are young and use locker room language. They are not choir boys or kids that have been raised in a highly PC culture. Duran made a mistake and now he will forever be blackballed and never get to do a commercial (like Papi does). This is the lack of experience of a young man that is very passionate about the game of baseball. I guess he could have said shut up "moron" instead of the F word, but that is the way it goes. Wait, the "moron" insult would have been insulting to all the morons of the world. Better say nothing. He will learn to ignore the hecklers.
  24. Is the F word the new N word? I read an article that the slur is an insult. But that the insult also involves an entire class of people. In that context he has to pay the penalty Has anyone heard the song “Money for Nothing”?
