  1. I don’t think it has anything to do with how many times he goes through the order, but his motion gets out of whack like yesterday. First inning was great, but not so good after that.
  2. If he can close yes it would, but I think he’s to inconsistent from inning to inning to be a closer, but at this point the Red Sox have nothing to lose.
  3. I agree 100%, but that’s not the way that the nerds, or metrics says it should be done. I personally think pitch count is a bigger determinator than the 3rd time through the order. Any stats on pitch counts in relation to third time through the order?
  4. Old friend Daniel Bard pick up his 8th save yesterday. To bad the Red Sox didn’t have someone like that.
  5. I would suggest before we do a final diagnosis on Wacha we give him a little more time. Just look how hitting is down all over baseball, and the Red Sox are an perfect example of that., so he may be just riding the no bat wave. I’ve been watching the Red Sox since 1960 that I can remember, and I don’t remember a Red Sox lineup that has been this stagnant for this long a time, and they haven’t been facing any Jim Palmers, or Nolan Ryan’s in the last two series.
  6. How do you know if anyone is going to fail? If someone is pitching good like Wacha the other night, or Hill today you leave them in. How do you know like today that the person coming will not fail like Houck did today? I know lots of people swear by analytics, but I swear about analytics.
  7. I agree with you that Bloom, and Cora are to blame.
  8. On the bright side JBJ got his BA up to 200 today. Way to go JBJ.
  9. Once again the Sox have tied the O’s in the loss column for last place.
  10. You left out 2020.
  11. Nah the bullpen needs work.
  12. The guy doing the piggybacking hasn’t done much backing today.
  13. Story Land is closed for the day
  14. Lots of good pitching has been wasted so far.
  15. I’m one of them to stay in.
  16. s t r e a k m a n!
  17. I agree, and pulling Hill early made more work for the BP, because Houck only went 3 after that. It’s not like the BP needs xtra work. Don’t like openers, and don’t like piggybackers.
  18. I’m with you about not jerking Whitlock around. I don’t think I’ve been selective in my stats. Whitlock couldn’t hold a 1 run lead opening day, but he was pitching in long relief, which is almost like a starter, and Cora said he would have gone 4 innings that day if he had held the lead. It’s just my opinion to make him the closer, and I’ve heard opinions on both sides. I would be on the starting side too if the Red Sox had a good reliable closer, but they don’t, and it has cost the Red Sox games.
  19. Not when you don’t have a closer, and you’ve lost games because of it. How has it worked with Whitlock starting? I’ll ask again do you think the Red Sox would have more wins if Whitlock had been closing since opening day. If you say no then we’ll just have to agree to disagree, but 10-15 to me says this way is not working.
  20. Cora won’t do it, because the rest of the nerds who run the Red Sox, and analytics don’t tell him to do so.
  21. What’s so hard to understand? He pitches the 9th with an occasional 4 out save, which I said before, and I even gave examples like 4 out save last Sat, and last night in the ninth in the same situation. 3-4 times a week if the save situation is there.
  22. I’m all for giving Houck a shot as the closer, but I just think Whitlock would be more reliable in that role, and not to mention effective.
  23. That’s what a true good closer does with an occasional 4 out save. How’s things working now with Whitlock starting? No matter how good he’s done how many innings has the BP had to pitch behind him?
  24. At the moment neither Bloom, or Cora have a clue.
  25. He would pitch 3-4 times a week with more than 4 outs like last Sat, and would have pitched the 9th last night if the situation would have been the same. I’m confident that the Sox would be 5-0 instead of 0-5 right now if Whit had been the closer in those 5 xtra inning losses.
