    Verdugo's all-field approach makes him the most consistent contact hitter (Bogie could be, but Cora wants more longball out of him). But we all know Devers has the best hand-eye coordination -- it's part of the reason he hacks at everything, because he can barrel anything he can reach. If he ever decides to show discipline, Devers might someday win a batting crown; maybe start with taking the first pitch, because every team knows he's swinging and makes sure not to throw it in the zone. Devers could do damage to burglars trying to rob his bedroom in the dark (he must keep a 31 oz. maple next to his nightstand)... sleep-batting.

    Moving DJ to first means leaving Odor at second, ensuring they have the worst DP combo in the majors. The only way it ever made sense to move DJ -- a good second baseman -- was so they could hide Gleybar there. This may be the only way to salvage the entire season: go out and trade some of that elite farm system for one of next year's elite free agent shortstops... asap.

    The real comp may come down to Duran vs. Cordero... Franchy is a below-average MLB outfielder. Duran may be also, though elite speed can outrun misjudged flies and liners at times. Maybe Franchy will have Wil Venable hit a hundred daily fungoes off the wall to improve, but either way, the Sox aren't messing with a winning combo by calling up a prospect (who needs to play to develop) right now -- unless it's to replace an injured player.

    No disagreement here, except I'd take the Sox so far over the #4 Reds and #5 Brewers. But the Braves or Mets would probably win the AL East if that was their division.

    Some posters may have overrated the AL East, but through these first few weeks, the Central looks loaded: the White Sox and Twins are legit: good starters, better relievers, and talented, young regulars. Cleveland has really good pitching, KC has decent pitching and hitting (so far). Detroit has pitching potential.

    No complaints; they've been playing tough teams the past week. There are 6 winning clubs in the AL right now: Boston, Seattle, LA, Oakland, KC, Cleveland... and the White Sox and/or Twins may be more balanced and dangerous than them all. Somehow, though, the team with the worst record in the league is still #11 overall (because, you know, they have a really good pitcher, a really good hitter, and 75 others who can bat the ball really far -- if they ever make contact; they're such heavy favorites that they have guys retire in the first month of the season).

    Now the Sox play the Sox three games within 24 hours. Pale is hoping for a split series -- not so easy on the road -- with Crimson starting "a righty Chris Sale" (according to Jim Palmer).

    The talking heads keep pointing at recent slow starts and how NY still wound up with 100-win seasons. What they conveniently leave out is that the '18 and '19 Yanks still had Didi, their best glove, at shortstop. There's no easy fix now, except for complete overhaul.

    We look at Gameday sometimes, too. I assume their box is more precise in location, since it's directly behind the batter (that would certainly account for a different zone, if it doesn't line up with views over a pitcher's shoulder).

    I despise those outlined boxes on TV. They cause me a lot of unnecessary agita, constantly worrying about batters or pitchers getting hosed... especially, since we know the angle of the imaginary box can't possibly be perfect over the pitcher's shoulder. If cameras were exactly centered behind the mound, we'd just see a lot of pitchers' backs (except for guys who stand at the side of the rubber). Games are enjoyable without being deceived by something that doesn't even exist on the field. This is one of the reasons I can relax listening to games on the radio (secretly hoping announcers are calling what they're seeing, and not reporting replays of fake boxes).

    I thought I remembered reading or hearing something about not using position players on the mound anymore for mop ups in blow-outs; maybe it's thought of as an insult to actual customers paying to watch a shoddy product. I probably nightmared it.

    It just seems like someone can do better in the Statcast Fangraphs BBRef era... maybe incorporate some formula like other sports that includes strength of competition, run differential, etc. to actually justify rankings. I dunno, do any of the sites that do preseason predictions based on stats do in-season ratings -- like with "pythagorean" type stuff?

    Astroturf teams; half the NL cities had synthetic grass. The big problem, besides destroying knees (from playing on the cement under the carpet), is when dealers started pushing it in nickel bags on street corners.

    But there it is again: right now -- today -- are they "good" or have they just been "doing good (things)"? Would you rather have your team be good on paper (or on screen)... or on the diamond? The Mariners are better right now than every AL team except Boston.

    But "at the moment" the Red Sox and Angels are better -- or playing better (either means both). If you're a website updating "current" rankings, then that should be reflected properly.

    Ya, the ALeast may come down to who sucks less. But as much as the MLB wants and needs New York back on top, maybe it will help the sport more right now if say, the Angels finally make and advance deep into the playoffs. Trout and Ohtani are worth watching and rooting for...
