  1. It hasn't been that long since the Sox had a hit in the playoffs. It just seems that way.
  2. Anyone who actually throws a strike to Arroyo the rest of the night should be DFAed.
  3. f***ing Great Nate. One bad pitch, but many great ones. We still got ourselves a game. If that doesn't inspire some offense -- and I don't care if it's smallball -- nothing will.
  4. Not with Gurriel on deck. Him I walk.
  5. Don't throw a 3-2 fastball.
  6. O-2 pitch, right where Yordan wants it. That could be the season right there...
  7. But by a team only two wins away from the World Series?
  8. That's the guy fans of DH-deprived teams have been clamoring for to opt out this winter.
  9. Sox luck is about to turn. We just need four straight pop-ups to fall in to tie this thing up.
  10. The first-frame HR by Bogie in Gm 3 was the last hit by a Red Sox batter that meant anything. That was four days ago...
  11. So... one time plus through the lineup and another no-hitter. Perhaps more telling: a bad play gives Astros a run, a good play robs Red Sox of one.
  12. Kicks the ball, throws it wild, and they still get him out. Astros would have the leadoff man on third by now.
  13. Verdirtdog will not let McCormick beat us.
  14. Ball f***ing FIVE Arroyo. Garcia did not throw one pitch over the plate to him. If they're pressing this early, it will get late soon.
  15. In Cora's interview he said there were a few players they weren't going to let beat them today. I assumed Alvarez was at the top of that list.
  16. Brutal pitch, brutal play, brutal start.
  17. Bogey used to be a great oppo hitter. Then Cora convinced him to drive the ball more. But a punch single to right on the junk was exactly what we needed there.
  18. That X at bat hurt bad. I don't care if you're Wade Boggs and can foul off a dozen breaking balls, don't watch a first pitch down the middle when it's crucial to score the first run of the damn game.
  19. ARod just said he's never seen a series before where two teams changed so dramatically. Maybe his brain went soft after Mike Timlin decked him in the '04 ALCS. ARod was 7-for-16 and the Yanks were up 3-0 in games... then he finished 1-for-15 and lost four in a row in the biggest turnaround (and choke) in baseball history. ARod even whiffed at slapping Bronson Arroyo when he was called out for interference.
  20. Re. a switchback: I think it can, because of an off-day to rest, reflect, and most importantly, reset... and relocate. Yup, the Sox just might be more focused at the task at hand behind enemy lines (if only they weren't so distracted by those twirling, orange hankies -- gimme a break, H-town, and mix in some real baseball fans). 5GGs new theory -- it's more likely for batters to get overanxious and roll over on outside junk when you're trying to be the home run hero for the hollering hometown crowd... instead of surviving via an adrenaline-induced laser focus, fighting for your lives in a hostile environment where you're outnumbered by tens of thousands of haters. Remember, if you're supposed to lose, then you've got nothing to lose -- and all it might take are a few elite athletes to channel the best hand-eye coordination in the world to stave off elimination.
  21. The difference in the two teams right now -- and in who leads the series -- is that Boston had a lights out bullpen in the first half, but Houston had a better bullpen in the second half and now because they acquired three really good relief pitchers at the trade deadline.
  22. This -- more than anything else -- is the stuff of Halloween horror movies. Red Sox relievers are those kids in the commercial hiding behind the chainsaws. Gurriel is Freddy, Yordan wears the Meyers mask, and Altuve is Chucky. Boston's bats should do more damage to Houston's starters, but Eovaldi, ERod and Pivetta must provide length, whenever they enter the game. It may be unrealistic to rely on rookies Whitlock and Houck in high leverage... but they're the best we've got. I still have hope Houck can flip a switch and be the unhittable force we've seen for one time through the order... Gotta like our chances if we build another decent early lead. Sox bullpen has blown two games in this series, while the Astros' pen has won two. Framber is done, and Javier may not be as good again. Is it so outlandish to say Boston's professional relievers are due to make some big pitches late?
