  1. Great place for a running play by Betts/Beni
  2. JD has to hit a fly ball, preferably a long fly
  3. Keep pouring it on, way to go Beni
  4. Now what will JBJr do with a man on 2nd (thanks, Sandy) and no outs? Hits it hard but right at Gardner, no help
  5. Sale kept the Yankees from scoring but I have to say that Judge, Stanton, Torres and Gregorious are a formidable bunch at 2-5 in the lineup. The Red Sox 1-3 should be as worrisome to their opponents.
  6. Well, Martinez kept the inning going, as did Moreland and Betts, the Devers delivered the shot that Gray deserves. Sale finally has a big lead to work from and needs to throw a few shutdown innings first time through the NY lineup. Do not take your spikes off their throat. Hate to say it was predictable , but Gray basically is useless against the Sox, and with over 30 pitches in the inning will put a load on the bullpen tonight.
  7. Yankees don't have anyone in the lineup hitting above .290. Red Sox top 4 guys lowest average is Andrew B at .286. The rest of the lineups on both sides are comparable . The game last night showed better clustering of hits, and situational hitting by MY.
  8. I'm joining the wonderment as to why Brock Holt is not in the lineup more than Nunez, especially against a righty like Sonny Boy Gray. And I don't have the complaints some do about Nunez who should not have expected to be a full time regular at this time of year. He was insurance and a good utility player to have on the bench. Holt has been in 48 games for 140 AB's and is hitting .293, with a .373 OBP ; 125 fielding chances with no errors Nunez has been in 70 games for 264 AB's with a .254 average but a poor .284 OBP ; 196 fielding chances with 3 errors. This isn't a knock on Nunez like some like to make, it's more like why not play Holt against RH'ers, and Nunez against LH'ers. Holt is also a superior runner , given Nunez's knee problem but I see no lack of effort from Nunez. Why does Cora favor Nunez?
  9. Sale will give up 3 runs in 6 innings (2 HR's), but the Red Sox should pound Gray for 4 runs at the end of 3, maybe more. Gray is a #4 or #5 at this stage and the Sox should jump him early . Chris will keep the Sox close if they fail to support him, but that shouldn't happen today. Time for a big bounce back.
  10. IMO, the Sox will still consider getting a vet starter . One factor will be the strength of Wright's knee situation. It may be intermittent or like Pedey's , chronic problem all year. Johnson and Velazquez did do well for limited innings vs the Angels who sucked pretty much the last several games, until they met the Orioles last night. Assuming that the last 3 games (at Fenway) with NYY are critical to the AL East win, Cora will have fun juggling the last two weeks to get Sale, Price and Porcello lined up just right to win it. I wouldn't trust Erod, Wright , Johnson or Velazquez with one of those games if they were critical.
  11. The Sox faced a pitcher tonight, while the Yankees feasted on a couple of throwers.
  12. I think the extra 4 games played by Boston has worn them out vs the well rested Yankees. Cora should have played his AAAA lineup tonight to rest everyone who needs it.
  13. Well, at least he didn't walk Bird on the 3-2 pitch. It will be illuminating to see how our Ace Sale responds tomorrow, and whether anyone brings a bat to bash Sonny Boy Gray
  14. Correct , but mid speed straight fastballs up in the zone to Judge and Stanton are something Haley will be able to talk about to his buddies back in Pawtucket. Doesn't seem to have any movement at all on the fastball except the long arc into the Rf stands by judge. Stanton just missed his.
  15. The hopeless K's were Vazquez and Devers in case you were watching. Betts AB was actually worse after he finished it.
  16. Exactly what was Mookie looking for on the 2-0 and 3-1 counts, where he got some center cut medium fastballs, only to dribble out on a horseshit 3-2 pitch. Betts made CC's night instead of knocking him out.
  17. Jackie takes one for the team, now Mookie's turn to light it up after 2 hopeless K's
  18. Great reaction to his offside by Devers, maybe the bats will now show up.
  19. I guess running Erod back out there against the middle of the lineup is a "character building" lesson in lieu of No Mas
  20. Julio is either tired or just can't time slop pitches and that hurts their chances of a comeback
  21. Now a JDM blast here would make it a game again. Will Cora let Erod bleed or let Haley see the big time show ?
  22. See the size of Gardner's glove ? Big enough to cover CC's prodigous ass
  23. It would also help him to lose the A. Lincoln beard. His fastball only diet makes it look scruffy
  24. Now you get a taste of what it's like to be an Orioles or Angels fan. Remember the Rays just swept these guys
