  1. I understand why it did not happen, but some of the fringe players/pitchers from 2018 need to be exchanged for others . Nunez, Pearce, Thornburg among others come to mind.
  2. Ricky be well done now. Missing Devers yet ?
  3. Rick looks like he has had enough. One more batter?
  4. A run scoring balk because Vaz wanted a Lipton tea break ? Now we have seen it all
  5. Do you mean the deceased Jim Morrison or the utility infielder drafted in the 33rd round who has .198 OPS at Dubuque ?
  6. Remy says porcello appears to be pitching much better now than earlier in the game. Another long time observation of RS starters is that they are not awake in the first couple innings, give up runs quickly, and the rest of the game is waiting for the hitters to wake up and nail them out. Notably, Brian Jiohnson pitched the opposite yesterday , the hitters came in the second innng, only to have the BP blow it late. It's just not our year.
  7. How many 2019 RS pitchers have blown saves ? I know 3 right off, Barnes, Brasier and Brewer, the Killer B's of the bullpen
  8. Amen on a Sunday. Maybe Moon could give us a 15 year history of every pitcher who was drafted into the organization and which coaches/managers were responsible for developing them.
  9. An urgent update from Jamaih on Josh Smith's life story ??
  10. It appears the lightning has struck Holt's left leg and like the "day to Day" status of Devers starts looking more like a week, except for the PH'ing, the very short bench gets a little shorter. Haven't seen a word on Moreland for quite awhile too.
  11. Not a critique of your correct point, just an indication of how boring this Red Sox team can be on some days. Nothing good going on at Fenway-----yet.
  12. Bogeu and JDM hit the 2 softest balls of the year stranding the runners again. Martinez hits shots one day and bouncers the next, but rarely both on the same day.
  13. A remarkably negative record for this team and its fans
  14. This one has some of the stench of the first 5 innings of many Red Sox games. Can't shut down late in the inning. Top 4 hitters are blanks early. Dominataed by mid level pitchers, play down to a weak opponents level.
  15. Why bother to advise them for free. The next advice will come with a bill for consulting services, DD/AC/JH
  16. 2 strike, 2 out hits will sooner or later bite you. Adds pitches , if nothing else.
  17. 3 hit inning from the lower end of the lineup, lots of baserunning, no score.
  18. Anybody else think that Holt strained a hammy right before reaching the catcher's tag ? Thought I saw him grab it.
  19. I believe he scored , but enough with the details of being behind the Jays early
  20. Nice defensive shift, and failure to control the ball by MH
  21. Didn't see the action, so don't know all the circumstances but suspect you are substantially correct.
  22. Since we are talking a Realistic View of 2019, get real. Say the Red Sox win the #1 or #2 WC and get to play one game to set up the ALDS series. Even assuming Eovaldi is back and in good shape, along with regular rest for the other 4 starters (Price, Sale, Porcello and Rodriguez) , who do you start in a one game playoff, with the season on the line ? Even assume Sale has full physical capabilities and is not tired, since Cora rested him most of September. Who goes for you ?? Then who is first out of the pen when you have a one run lead opening the "clean" 7th inning ?
  23. Had to leave after about the 4th or 5th inning assured of a win, given the lead. Came home and didn't look up the score but just read this thread first. Told me all I needed to know. All the answers are self contained. Relievers who cannot throw strikes are next to worthless. Any reliever exceeding 20 pitches in an inning is treading on really thin ice. Any reliever brought out for a second inning is like tossing dynamite sticks to kids. A reliever who consistently throws curve balls (Barnes/Workman) will not be consistent , low pitch count out getters. Barnes throwing 36 pitches to get 2 outs is on Barnes first and Cora second. I personally have disliked Barnes as a key reliever for the last 2 seasons. He can post all the numbers you want to support him with but a more gutless wonder I have never followed.. Brasier needs to be studied from the scrap heap he came from, the Japanese League. His contribution last year was like several on this team who played way over their pay grades and won a stunning championship. As Steven A. Smith says, "Happy Birthday, Good Luck, I don't care !". Just check it out, when the pitch count exceeds 20, the majority of the time the reliever fails. Today was a wasted effort where Brian Johnson gave you a 5 inning gift and then 4 guys in the pen, including Shawaryn blew it big time. Barnes with 2 losses and 5 blown saves, as a veteran reliever, in less than a half season is the primary culprit. Brasier is a nobody and should never be expected to be a winner.
  24. Chavis is making progress to figuring out how to be an effective hitter. good for him and us.
