  1. Seebold faced 5 hitters, 3 walked, 2 got hits and no one was retired. All 5 runners scored. He has an infinite ERA. But he'll come around to being an asset, just not right now.
  2. Looks like Eovaldi is about ready for the season getting 4 no hit innings, 6Ks. Gotta have another long, strong year from him
  3. Not the modifier "old Sox" meaning the 50's-70's
  4. For all the talk about pitching , little has been said about Matt Barnes, which suits me fine because IMO he is a loser . Having set my personal tone, does he still have the ability ( physically and mentally) to make the significant contributions Bloom contemplated when the 2021 All Star was given a gift of a new contract ? If he could return to his first half 2021 results that would assure him that I would not be calling him the reliever for the team from OZ , lacking courage, heart and a brain. If he does overachieve in 2022, then all is forgiven, Matt. Go get'em , Tiger
  5. Wow , 40 pitchers a few of who tormented the Red Sox in prior years with their junkball pitching : Happ and LeBlanc anyway. A few years ago, a bullpen with Betances, Miller and Workman would have been considered tough to beat. Archer, Arrieta, Cueto and Harvey could have been a strong group of starters. Time is the great leveller of talent
  6. There is: Weigh the leftovers each night from the clubhouse food spread . A harmonious team always has less waste (leftovers) because the guys stay and talk/joke , hang out. The old Sox mantra of "25 players=25 cabs" means a rotten clubhouse culture and the amount of leftovers would feed the entire farm club system for that team.
  7. I think the disappointment and antsy analysis comes from the 2021 success that came from a somewhat patchwork, low expectation crew vs the "loaded" AL East. Aside from the lockout BS, most might have expect3ed 1 or 2 new significant pitchers, a prime 1Bman, and a slugging OF'er to put the Sox in a strong position. Now it does look like another hodge podge of a spare parts roster ( beyond Bogey, Raffy, JDM, EO, Kike, Dugo) , missing Frail Sale again, and Paxton. Where is Barnes psche this year ? We have a LH'ed BP, and a short bench. Staying with the idea that the real plan is for a bigger shot in 2023.
  8. Don't knock Spam until you've FRIED it . Then you can knock it because it's not great
  9. Except that a couple of the Jays young stars come from other places than Canada , and some may be personally adverse to vax in general. Doesn't really matter because , for the time being, NYC could be a similar No Play zone without your documents shown to the HP umpire
  10. Speaking of leftovers, which Chaim likes, too bad Meatloaf passed away during the off season or Bloom could have signed him
  11. I have seen both Story and Bogaerts state that 2B is not an option for them. That settles that business. If we could still be using heavy shifts, then put both of them on the same side and tell them they are the SS, just realigned.
  12. Here's a question: Does anyone know which Jays players, if any, are unvaxxed ? I'm not sure the vax % outside the U.S. is all that high.
  13. The continued nibbling for lesser known fill-in the blank players still represents ,IMO, the last year of a plan (2019-2022) to truly clear the higher priced existing contracts and dead money deals, get a final year ( maybe trade deadline selloffs for legit prospects) from the older guys including JDM , Vaz , Bogaerts , Barnes etc. Bloom and ownership then will be looking for young controlled player breakthroughs from the rebuilt farm system , and a few mid career FA's next year for a run in 2023. \ The relative, unexpected success in 2021 provided just enough gas to the Red Sox fandom base to coast through 2022 , plus the CBA terms are now a known . This season is a bridge going from the cliff to the sunny beaches of the north shore (intentional click bait). It is my only explanation for the standstill passivity in Boston.
  14. I will go on a limb and say that by the A-S game the Red Sox will have needed 8 pitchers to start multiple games ( more than once). Where is that depth now? Probably on other rosters
  15. Only means he has 100% control of any trade. You'd think he was in the NBA
  16. Jackson, do you honestly think they play for a team or a uniform that means nothing to them ? No, it is in fact all about the 100% guaranteed , lifechanging generational money. Most would do the same given the chance.
  17. Freeman will wind up with the Dodgers , no matter the rumors or gossip. Done deal for fast freddie
  18. No problem, always enjoy and appreciate your well documented insights
  19. MLB did away with 7 inning games. Read it again, there will be 7 programmed NINE inning Doubleheaders ading to the stress on starting pitching and BPs
  20. Keep in mind there are now 7+- nine inning doubleheaders baked into the schedule requiring further depth in either/both starters and/or the BP. Remember BP games. A true premium in 2022 on pitching depth , one thing the Sox are definitely lacking . Totally discounting Sale's new injury, and any yet to follow, when your pitching level is lifted by adding Rich Hill or the other barely recognizable guys to the roster , you have to question if this team will compete well OR is this yet another year in a 5 year drill to fully remake the team (2018-2023) ? Move Mookie, get rid of Price's and Pedey's dead money contracts, no plays for big money FA's in '21 nor '22, let Bogey move on, finish up JDM's contract, etc. There may be more going on here than meets the immediate twin optical device survey.
  21. The Sox have come full circle from Chris "Freakin" Sale to Chris "Fragile" Sale . A pitcher whose power and leverage exceeds his musculoskeletal body's ability to withstand his stress inducing throwing motion.
  22. Since we are in the AL East, how about the tidbit that unvaccinated players will not be allowed into Toronto to play the Jays ? I do not know nor much care which Red Sox are vaxxed or not, but isn't this the Canadian authorities setting up a competitive advantage for the Jays? How about if the Blue Jays young Dominican contingent isn't vaxxed for any reason ? Surely there must be some Kyrie Irving equivalents in MLB that for their own reasons will reject vaccination.
  23. And the indomitable Martin Perez is going to the Rangers. No not the hockey team from NYC .
  24. I still think the negotiations will reach a conclusion next Thursday or Friday (March 16/17) Long enough for both sides to be perceived negatively but not too long to cost players too much money. Sticking with 162 games or at least guaranteeing payment of any in place full contracts for a slighty shortned season. Almost time to play ball so we can see what the point in bringing JBJr back really was.
  25. One real world example of the dropoff from the top 600 MLB'ers to just the lower ranked 600 MLB'ers is the performance of the bench utility guys and back end of bullpens in MLB , as well as the 14-15 guys on the 40 man roster when they do get called up to play. The Red Sox alone can provide many samples of the dropoff in talent/skill and outcomes when you go below the "starting" 9 or top 4-5 pitchers per team. Ryan Weber comes to mind as well as Marwin G.
