  1. JBJr, who has been hitting a bit lately, fouled off the same center cut 88 FB that Shaw missed entirely. Hill's mistakes become souvenirs.
  2. Wow, , Shaw swings under a watermelon pitch at 88mph. May 1 will become the day of reckoning for a couple of the Sox. Travis may be one. Who is the other ?
  3. Is the #44 on Hill's jersey his uniform # or his age? Wonderful, long career , local connection ( hometown discount), but limited application on a contending team. The bats need to work again today
  4. This welcome win means just as much now as in mid September. Come back tomorrow for an early special
  5. Hitters hit, Twins dig a big hole for themselves
  6. Devers gets Kike around to 3rd and gets himself on base with a well placed hit.. A run must be scored here, X
  7. Gotta move Hernandez home. A Devers HR would do it
  8. Brasier just likes to f*** around and then gas you. I actually think he has no clue where the ball is going and the ump doesn't help him
  9. Tremendous effort by Wacha through 5 innings. Time to wake up the somnolent bats.
  10. Followed by 19 pitches through 2. Excellent work, with a few K's thrown in
  11. Verdugo could carry this team through April . Definitely lengthens the line up . Made the walk to JDM hurt the Twins. Key hit early in the game.
  12. With 2 on and 1 out, neither Vaz nor Kike got injured, and certainly didn't risk of hammies by the base runners
  13. Fully agreed. The 2 run add-on vs Sawamura wasn't a whole lot and the hitters can still score 7 runs to win
  14. Another grinding AB by Christian V, resulting in a K.
  15. On a team with a questionable starting staff , along with injuries, you would think that the bullpen would need to be exceptional and durable . Instead the 2 guys who are most needed to excel (Barnes/Taylor) are of no help. This will be a 82-80 season if it doesn't rain much
  16. If Verdugo bats 10 times today, we have a chance. JD and Story , not so much
  17. Pivetta with a useless contribution to the home opener. Plenty of time for the bats to bail him out.
  18. Matt Barnes brings out the defenders and Offenders like no other Sox right now. I am satisfied with having disliked his pitching style and mental makeup for multi-years. And yes he had a great half season in 2021, seemingly having righted himself. Not really !
  19. Going on a limb to say that the extension contract Chris Sale got from the Sox has all the potential of being another drain on the budget with little contribution from Chris. Granted he has had excellence and success over a good career until the TJ surgery, but how could you not look at his anatomy , body type combined with the arm/shoulder stressful delivery mechanics and not reach the conclusion he would wear out in his 30's. The stress fracture in the rib is very unpredictable but the overall endurance/durability is seriously questionable from here on out. Oh well, every team needs someone to pitch to the Orioles, so Sale remains our guy.
  20. Of the 10 names 4 did not pitch for Boston last year, so you could think, aha--key strategic additions ! And you'd be wrong. Strahm, Diekman and Danish are true low leverage shots in the dark.. Maybe one gets lucky and breaks through ? Of the rest Valdez and Sawamura had a few moments but overall were backenders. Brasier has done well and not so good, appears to be losing some velo. There is no way to explain Matt Barnes , closer by default with 92-93 velo. The best pitcher in the bunch, Taylor is down with a bad back which rarely gets better while pitching. Whitlock and Crawford better be ready for a heavy first half workload. Overall, this has to rank as a poor effort by Chaim to support a potential contending club.
  21. I assume Danish is up for the proverbial cup of coffee?
  22. Watching Shaw a few times this ST, he looks overweight . He knows he's at the end of a limited career and is eating the spread to save his meal money
  23. Begs the question, are you a player who can do it when it counts or only count what you did, after the fact? In baseball , how well does advanced metrics predict success at varying rates for different players in specific situations , all of which are by definition small samples . Keep in mind the differrence between 200 base hits and 150/season is just under 2 hits a week of full time play.
  24. Rich Hill cannot be a GM's proposed solution to helping a contending team repeat above 90 wins , contributing 150+ innings . I'll be impressed if Rich is still pitching by July 31 . Hoping for the best but expecting no more than we did from Perez or Weber last year.
  25. It should be, however, if he stress fractured his rib throwing, his comeback and reliability factor would seem to be in jeopardy with almost every pitch .Cora holding his breath each time. I hope they did a bone scan or osteoporosis evaluation on this beanpole to see if he can withstand the exertion. For the rest of his contract , will he be an asset or liability ?
