Bradley only made sense as a 4th OF'er covering "rest days" , pinchrunning , late inning defense. His contract is expensive for those skills and I would guess he is about untradeable at that price, with option for'23 pending.
This is a fairly unique lineup which started with 2 batters carrying a .000 BA & OPS ( Davis did get a hit), 4 other batters with sub.600 OPS. Even Devers is below .800 , not exactly ripping the league a new one. Among all more likely possibilities, it actually could be Fatse's fault.
Davis' single, which left Vaz so shocked he froze in place, got him a 2.000 OPS . Later Franchy actually walked so the slump busting continues despite 7 LOBs .
Vaz didn't realize there were 2 outs. Someone yesterday said he was the dumbest baserunner on the team or maybe all of baseball. Another vote just came in
Still true that if you combine Shaw's production with Franchy's ( his nominal replacement) you have a perfect 2022 season. No hits, no runs, no walks---NO offense at all. But who cares, it's still early, isn't it
There is little question now that it was Venable who messed this team up. AC comes back and in one game all is well in the Nation. Hitters hit, pitchers pitch and Bogaerts gets a day off.
Nice game by Wacha. BP time. Cora does need to sort out more typical roles so these guys can get set mentally as to how they are being used. Houck didn't help with his unvax and the lack of a true closer messes up the 9th inning pitching with a lead.
D, with some more normal run production the starters have been good enough to reverse about 4 of those losses and the BP , if able to finish hitters, would have saved 3 .
It may not happen in as radical a shuffle, but 2023's 26 man roster could start with 8-10 new faces . The few givens would include Sale , Paxton, Devers, Story , Whitlock, Houck , maybe Wacha and Bradley if no one else wants him for the price.
Not worried about it, just thinking ahead to the fact that JDM would be a sure trade option at the TDL if these guys are not in contention. So will Bogaerts, Barnes, Eovaldi and others but that does not mean its time to pull the plug on anything. They are in a tough division and not yet playing well .
There's a story out there . Something wrong with playing out of your natural position. Better bench Bogaerts to allow the "new" guy some space to be himself.
