  1. Verlander pitches like an Ace after his TJ. We extend Saale, then he gets TJ, then he breaks his own ribs, then can't go to Toronto (unforeseen at the time), then he comes back and gets smashed with a line drive to his pitching hand. After Devers, the Sox MiLB system has not produced future stars. There may be a few on the cusp , and some are getting trial by fire, but "stars" will be coming to a ballpark near you after Devers moves on.
  2. The reality is that the injury bug has made a shambles of the roster and lineup over the past two weeks. The uniforms look the same but there is no "stuff" in them. Dalbec and Cordero are not starters on a pennant seeking team. Downs and Duran need more work and even then may not be significant players. Verdugo is a an odd duck, some ability, not much 'motor" . Vaz, JDM, Bogey are possibly looking at their last times in Boston. Jackie Bradley, a defensive replacement at best. Frail Sale is done for this year. 5 other pitchers counted on for this year simultaneously on the IL , Taylor all year. Paxton was never a factor. Bello , at least, is getting some picture of what MLB pitcher's need to do. The simple fact that 30 year Ort pitched the 6th+ inning of his career today tells you a lot. Defensive lapses occur. Kike and Arroyo have been real helps, or NOT so much or even at all. June's run was very hopeful, but hope is not a strategy to win. .
  3. So the Sox had an 11 game run before the trade deadline to detrmine if they were buyers or sellers. They are now 0-3 in that effort. Does everyone realize that they could still go 8-3?? Just saying.
  4. So the Sox get the requisite 27 outs, allowing only 3 after the first inning, and shutting out Toronto in 7 of 9 innings . This is a NESN positive news update.
  5. So you are saying there is a chance?
  6. WOO-ould love to visit and see what talent is there, because there isn't enough up here in Boston
  7. Dalbec with 3K's and a foulout today. His twice a month HR's keeping him alive at the MLB level. Or was it the Casas long injury recovery ?
  8. The scary part is that I can remember his baseball card, as well as Mike Fornieles, and Casales feat over the Yankees was the subject of one of those back page cartoons illustrations of the game , probably in the Herald. All 1950's stuff
  9. Ike was known as Zee guy in the clubhouse . I'm trying to get thrown out of your game
  10. Caleb Ort , a 30 year old, with a total of 6+ innings of MLB experience. About to hit 30 pitches in the inning
  11. So glad we don't have any bad ball hitters like Guerrero
  12. It was not an intentional walk call from the bench, it was his own failure to know the rules. His miss of 1B later is on him also . I'll settle on Sawamaura was an unlucky choice for Cora
  13. Those are great choices from deep in the dumpster bin. Cazales was a good pitcher who I recall beat the Yankees one day with his pitching and a big HR over the wall to complete a sweep. Delock was a mid 50s steady member of the rotation.
  14. You are hot my friend and along with a couple others here much more entertaining than the game itzelf
  15. Ok, so here it goes; Wade Boggz, Clemenz, Petrozelli
  16. Shades of Lou Piniella in a sunlit RF, pain from years ago
  17. Sawamura was the wrong choice at the time, AC . And you stayed with him a bit too long. This game would be more winnable if it was 5 or 6 to 4, instead of 8.
  18. Bogey tries and equals Jeter's play. I expect he is tired and it is reflected in his ABs
  19. Very nice play by Downs who got down with an athletic layout
  20. Yes, Splinter pointed out yesterday that Sanchez is a vet. I didn't call it a rookie or sysstem mistake, but his own fundamental positioning prevented a potential play.
  21. Just a couple of "Z" boys swinging away and hitting the ball hard
  22. Doesn't matter too much but another fundamental was sanchez's positioning to receive Duran's nice throw. Yes, the ball was a little on the 1B side but Sanchez was 6'+ off the bag. Would have been a tough play, but makeable
  23. I don't see Boston based media, but would be interested to hear Bloom's comments, if any, after this weekend.
  24. Geez, Vaz, man on third , one out, no contact. You got the disease too Dugo picks him up though
