  1. Bell 4, I agree. If one could not see by late March that this team was not going to do very well given the roster construction and reliance on many What Ifs . Hope is not a strategy . This group has not jelled into a sense of team, and over the next month to trade deadline many of the 26 will be looking over their shoulder to see if they are coming or going. Then after all the complaints about JH's, Bloom's and Cora's role in the sub-stellar performances, most of the players themselves have not exceeded many, if any expectations. Bello is on the verge of a breakout season, Duran has improved from a low bar, Dugo is useful, Yoshi is not the problem but beyond those guys who is making it happen here ? The reality is that Devers should have 75-80 rbi's . You can blame injuries and accidents but it is still the ultimate basics: score more than the opponent 60% of the time. The general run producing drought is now extending over a full month . That is the cumulation of almost a 1000 AB's. That is the players .
  2. I know you missed me cheering the Sox on but was down in Mexico for 3 days. Looks like I missed a train wreck of a series. No worries, a streak is just about to break out.
  3. I think the RS had little choice , given the fan base and loss of Bogaerts, except to extend Devers in a market rate contract. I only hope I live long enough to see the outcome of this one in 2033+-. RSR has a point about Devers overall effectiveness, forget the money. Raffy's longevity is ,at minimum, a concern , but on a team with no real other star players yet, it's ok to have one in the fold. Good luck to him and the team . Call me when he weighs 260 and can only DH. It should be about 2028. Meanwhile knock the cover off the ball, you full of joy kid ( O'Bs quote)
  4. Let's just sum up all these comments as follows: This team was ill composed, has suffered significant injuries where depth is still a question and cannot hit for a damn , while playing poor defense. It was , is and will be a .500 team with little to no distinction among the mediocrities in baseball. When your results have not improved over a 3+ year period , try something else. Tired of listening to cheerleaders rooting for a lost cause. If these guys cannot go 7-3 over the next 10 , then you have got problems. Let's hope they do.
  5. So you're saying it wasn't Ted Williams. That would have been a laugh to see. Ted and several others used those flimsy cap liners for protection
  6. It's got to be hard being BD because you know your days are numbered in Boston . He needed to HR rather than K.. The switch to Casas in that situation is understood. Tristan almost fooled Beni
  7. You could have inserted Red for White in your second sentence and not been far off.
  8. OK, Duvall may be back. Beni may have had that if he was younger
  9. Here's a question ---- The talk about Story coming back possibly in July as a hitter before his return to the field (SS or 2B) in August is problematic. If Story can only DH for a few weeks, then who sits , Turner ( not likely ), Casas (why), Yoshi ( for a guy coming off DL mid season?) . Moon has played with many lineup variations in Forum threads but I do not see how Story fits in as a DH. Plus , as we see with Duvall's return, you don't just step in and be productive out of the gate after 8-9 months of inaction and limited reps. Story should only be back when he can bat and field.
  10. Kike keeping the line moving, setting up Caleb's GS. Actually now this Hamilton is 1 for 19 in MLB action.
  11. The gap from AAA pitching to MLB is apparent in some AAAA players
  12. Give Yoshi some sliding mittens
  13. Duvall looking like JDM with a double to right center. Really hoping he wasn't an 8 day wonder in April
  14. So much for waltzing through the weak AL Central
  15. Duvall 3 for 22 with 10K's over past 7 games. He's in ST and not catching up to mid-season speed
  16. Got it, Turner is a hitter
  17. Once again, just a single or error
  18. Getting a little short on time/outs now
  19. Sometimes you just need a single or a throwing error . Pick up the Duran run, please
  20. Turning it around with a hit to give them a shot at tying things back up
  21. Casas shows the power to go with his plate discipline and continues to get better as a run producer. Great way to regain the lead.
  22. Washed up hack departs the playing field
  23. You are right. I completely forgot it was the Red Sox lineup against Lynn. Talkabout some "hacks"
  24. Winckowski has done this more than once
